There was a body kit for the Pinto in the early '70s that gave the car a Pantera like nose. Called it the Pangra. Still didn't look very good.

The 4 cylinder engine was the best thing about the car. It used the Ford Kent block, the same block used by Lotus for all of their twin cam 1600cc motors. A truely indestructable engine. Same motor in the Ford Fiesta and early Capris.

Every car has some redeaming quality. Except maybe the AMC Pacer.

Speaking of Pantera's....

Pantera's remind me of Detamaso's, I don't know why. I guess they just look a lot a like.

But I saw a yellow Detamso today on the road. It was sweeeeeeeeeeeeet. Those things are so rare. I see Lamborghini's more often. It's presence is like seeing a freaking GT40 or something.

i thought pantera was made by detomasto ? something about a itailian body and frame with american V8 POWER ...almost perfection

i hear ya on the pinto , engine was its best quailty thats the only part of the car that lived on (till 1993) , that engine with a turbo powered one of my favorite cars , the 1985.5 mustang SVO

even the vega had some awesome things about it , how bout the cosworth vega ? twin cam cossie head on the alumium block with teflon coatings as sleves instaed of cast iron sleves , coarse even base vegas had that teflon aluminium block , in order to be rebuilt and honed or bored out it would have to be done at a GM certified facility.

pacers have a interesting story , did you knowafter GM played with the rotary that AMC got the patent or right from them and began playing with rotarys? they had to make a new comapct for the rotary ,the pacer. the car started out 8 inches narrower than it ended up and had that wicked low hood line since it had the rotary . well in the end amc couldnt make the rotary work the way they wanted it and gave the rights up to mazda , the pacer grew 8 inches wider and sported a 4cyl (courtesy of audi) that leaned to one side (chryler slant 6 style) to clear the low hood .....

I just looked into it, and apparently it was a Detomaso Pantera. It just has a Ford engine. Doh! Well anyway, yeah, I saw one of them on the road a couple days ago. It was yellow.

i think that most civics are laughable. at my school, there's a girl that came in second in our school car show, she has a huge obnoxious wing, a bodykit, and the all-too-common "check out my 12's!!" audio system, and dual exhaust.

Only problem, the dual exhaust was fake. If you bend down you can see straight through the left pipe. Thought that was pretty great.

Hideous cars? how about this big mofo.

actually I've seen more fast civics in my time than I'll ever see fast 240/silvia's. The aftermarket support is just too large to compete with

I remember helping my girlfriend doing a head job on hers that had a burned valve with a crack in it at less thatn 40K miles.

I will now erase that memory to conserve my diminishing brain cells.

If you saw a DeTomaso Pantera actually running that wasn't rusted through, you indeed witnessed a rare event which should be welded into your brain permanently. They were an evolution of the Mangusta.

They were sold through Mercury dealers for about $10K (a lot of money then) until 1971 or 1972. Had the ford 351 in them. Embarassed vettes, but are subject to terminal snap oversteer.__________________Brian1995 Q45 & Q45t & 2000 Q45
