I recently bought an 89' 240sx at an auction for $100. The motor has a new rebuilt head and new timing chain said it needed new oil pump. Well replaced oil pump and still have no pressure. I tore the bottom end apart replaced gasket on pick up tube. Also before that got the air compressor and blew all the oil passages and are clear. Still after all put back together still no oil pressure. Also inspected the oil pump shaft and saw that it was almost a .25" away from full seating in to the pump fixed that and still no pressure. What is the deal with this motor!!!!!!

Maybe the gauge isn't reading. Could be the sending unit.

I'm not getting oil in the pump, or in the filter for some reason I'm not getting any oil pressure what so ever. And now when I try and start the car smoke starts coming from #1 and #2 cylinders out from the exhaust manifold.

Does the oil pump drive shaft have to be in corret timing with the motor in order for it to work. The mark on the gear does not line up in parallel with the tab going to the distributor, does that need to be corrected.
