Well, Phobia's season has ended. My wonderful job as a haunted house actor is once again postponed for a year. I came out with a fair share of cash. Business was so bad this year because of construction and rain that I was one of the only actors to get a bonus. Next year should kick *** though, I hope a staff position opens up for me.

In the meantime, I need to go get another job. I'm thinking about working at a local Denny's, all the employees there love me. I'm not going to bother with work until the play I'm in is over. Man I miss Phobia. Well, my body doesn't; I've got bruises all over my left leg from jumping on and over a rail, and my feet are killing me. I had a good time while it lasted though! Scaring people gives you such a rush.:boink

Happy scaring everyone!:asthanos

So you are an actor by profession?

Kinda neat.

Also working at a Denny's gets you to meet a lot of chicks.I once roomed with a couple of guys working as waiters.

They always brought over hot chicks into the house for post-shift parties.

Pretty cool.

I'm an actor by hobby, and a full time student.

The only places where I would make money as a valet wouldn't hire me without a haircut.

Waiting can be the perfect job for a student. It got me through college with more than my fair share of toys. But be warned--it's a lifestyle more than a job. I worked in restaurants for 5 years and in that time I was the only person I knew of who "got out". Every other student/waiter I know eventually dropped out. Every night, you leave the place with a wad of cash in your pocket, and guess what? All your coworkers are going to a bar to hang out. It's always fun to be with them, but you won't be home until 3 or 4, and you end up either missing classes or sleeping in them. It's a great job, so long as you never lose sight of the real goal.

Thanks for the warning dude. I know the risks, and I know that I need the money.

The problem (or not) is that waiting is so attractive relative to what a degree can get you initially. Working in restaurants, I took home then almost what I take home now. It is customary (though illegal) to claim only a portion of what you really make, so you're only getting taxed on a portion of your actual tips. That, plus your social life rocks and you're only working 30 hours a week or so. There are downsides of course. Alcoholism and drug use are common, neither of which are conducive to studying. And since most people tip on a percentage basis, you only get a raise when menu prices go up or if you quit to work in a higher-grossing restaurant. Ultimately, your pay is tied to inflation. That's not true with the job your degree will (should) get you, where you can actually get promoted. Waiters are the only people I know who stand to take a severe pay cut when they get promoted to management!

Yep, I know how it is....

<---is also a waiter

It's a really good job, and I know a lot of people who still make their living off of it...
