so i finally got my motor good to go for the street drags. went their and raced like 6 times. it seemed my motor was taking the 10ish 11ish psi like a champ. all went well and i even made the 30 mile drive home with no problems. the next day i drove to work and when i pulled into the parking lot my car died. after i started it it sounded like it was on 3 cylinders. it was puffing white smoke but only at idle. changed plugs and same results. also their was no wet oil on the plugs. i pulled one wire at a time and oddly enough nothing really changed. im assuming i blew the head gasket but what do you guys think

check your dipstick after it is running and see if the oil looks like a chocolate milkshake. That is a sign of a blown headgasket I believe. I think I have heard of other people having the same problem and it was their valve seals. I think it was cmfireman ... ...

You blew a headgasket brotha. White smoke = anti freeze. You didnt blow it bad, but regardless, it needs to be replaced.

If you want to verify what im saying, do a compression check on your car. One or two of your cylinders will have much lower compression than the rest.

Not necessarily the head gasket. Could be a bad injector. Do the same thing you did with the plugs...pull the connectors one at a time while it is running and see if there is one that doesn't change the cadence of the motor...

tons of unburnt raw fuel can make white smoke at idle...

ok ill try that first... I had a really good mechanic listen to the way it was running and he told me the motor is blown.. lol he is like a mad scientist when it comes to cars but i dont know if i want to drop a couple grand off of what he says just by listening to the car. If it comes down to trying to replace the head gasket is their in write ups on here?? i searched all the archives and could not come up with anything that seemed like it would help. i have done a lot of work on my motor before but never anything like a head gasket. also the white smoke does smell like fuel.

Also one other thing that seems strange to me is like i said i drove all the way to work and thier was a WRX on the freeway so i decided to catch him:) so i was pretty rough on my motor on the way to work and everything seemed fine.. no odd sounds or loss of power.. then i got to work and turned my car off.. still all good then when i was leaving so that car was still not to operating temp i was pulling out when it died.. just seems wired to blow something major when i was stopped.. figured if anythign was going to go it would have happend on the freeway..
