I just picked up my latest Car and Driver magazine, seeing the sexy new dodge charger on the cover (not like the ugly concept seen at past car shows, its actually pretty damn good looking). Flipping through, I saw the listing of model changes for the '05 models.Ah-ha!!! I thought, and flipped to the Infiniti section, hoping to find something about what the new I 35 will look like (I couldn't see how one could make the A34 Max look remotely Infiniti-ish). What I found is that it is being axed. No more I35? Why? Is it to be picked up late in '05 or in '06 along with the revamped (and less-aggressive looking) M45? Or is it gone forever? Maybe just gone until the A35? Or perhaps the G is filling that gap. Maybe a new model, as yet unnanounced. But that means only one vehicle will be built on the A-chassis. This seems very unlike Nissan to me. Anyone know what is going on here?

My guess is that the G35 will be sold to would be I35 owners. With the Coupe Sedan and AWD option out it looks like the Infiniti didn't need two 3.5L cars in the lineup.

I think you are probably right. I figured that, too. But, to me it doesn't make sense. I mean, if you have been inside both the G35 and the Maxima, you know how much smaller the G is. So now you are stuck with a mid size for $35k or a land barge for $62k (The Q45). They need something in between. As I said before, this all seems very unlike Nissan to me. Frankly, I'm getting worried that Nissan is selling out.

I don't think it has anything to do with Nissan being sellouts. The fact is that the I30/I35 have never been great sellers. I think the last time I looked they were selling about 4,000 a year which isn't much. Expecially when compared to the ES300 with sales around 28,000 a year.

Ahh I see. That's sad. The I35 is ten times the car the ES 300 is.

The soon to be re-designed M45 is "supposed" to be offered as an M35 as well, offering the larger size to the 3.5 driver.

Wait....so does that mean that there will be a M35 AND a M45? Interesting...I didn't think the M would have a VQ...

Quote »Infiniti M Performance Sedan

The 2006 M, available spring 2005, optimizes both luxury and sport styling to create a dynamic visual appeal. The exterior design features a low, aggressive hoodline, which flows into the anchored shoulders and contributes to the sporty, powerful silhouette. Inside, the interior is highly expressive, combining a driver-oriented cockpit with an Infiniti level of luxury and design detail.

At the heart of the Infiniti M is the high-performance power of a choice of advanced V8 or V6 engines, with the vehicles badged M45 or M35 accordingly. The M45 features the 4.5-liter DOHC V8 currently used in the Infiniti Q45 and FX45. For use in the M45, it produces 340 horsepower. The M35 is powered by a 3.5-liter DOHC engine producing 275-plus horsepower. Both the M45 V8 and M35 V6 are mated to a 5-speed automatic transmission with short-throw performance shifter and manual shift mode.

Advanced technology is abundant on the M45 – starting with a new Rear Active Steer system, which helps improve vehicle handling performance by adjusting the geometry of the rear according to steering input and vehicle speed. Also featured on the M45 is a new Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system, which helps warn the driver of a pending, unintended lane departure (LDW makes its North American automotive production debut in the 2005 Infiniti FX crossover SUV).

Highlights of the 2006 M include:

· Sporty, luxurious design· Stable posture with long wheelbase (114.2 inches), wide tread and short overhangs · Low, aggressive hoodline and anchored shoulders provides a sporty, powerful silhouette· Enhanced, “next generation FM (Front Mid-ship) platform

· 32-valve 4.5-liter DOHC V8 producing 340 horsepower; 24-valve DOHC 3.5-liter V6 producing 275-plus horsepower · 5-speed electronically controlled automatic transmission with manual shift mode· Enhanced power-assisted steering system with sport ratio· 19-inch wheels and high-performance tires· Inviting interior feel with use of etched aluminum and leather appointments· Large cabin space, able to fit five adult passengers comfortably· Bose® Studio Surround™ audio system with 14 speakers, 5.1-channel decoding with two personal speakers mounted in each front seat· Bluetooth wireless connectivity· Lane Departure Warning (LDW) system with cancel switch[/quote]
