At this point I figured that I'd wait for my transmission to be replaced before opening a case with Nissan in case that was the cause of the sputtering and shutting off- even though I highly doubted it. Sure enough sometime around Mid-January I received a call from my local dealership to set up a date to replace my transmission. It was replaced and the vehicle ran perfect.......for about 60 miles. It returned to sputtering and shutting off. I was busy with school and didn't drive much, so I didn't bring in my vehicle til March. Again, they told me that nothing was wrong with the vehicle and pretty much that i was delusional. Sometime around mid March I was driving home when the vehicle lost all power. I couldn't make it up my driveway with full throttle. I recorded everything with my phone. After a couple of hours my car started back up and limped into the garage. I took it to the dealership the next day and they diagnosed it to be the transmission- AGAIN. This time I demanded a rental, which they agreed to. "Coincidentally", my transmission came in 2 days later and was installed within a week. So I left the dealership with the third transmission on the vehicle and sure enough, it began to sputter again within 60 miles. At this point I had already opened a case with Nissan One.
I wrote a demand letter to Nissan demanding a repurchase for their p.o.s. quality build on my Altima. They reviewed my case and denied- no surprise there. They did however offer to give me $1,500 for my troubles- I refused of course. I got into a heated argument with the Nissan rep and he said he would revise my case again. That same day my vehicle lost all power to move while I was in my school's parking structure. I recorded everything. I drove back home from school that week to drop my car off at my local dealership- again I demanded a rental because I didn't feel safe with my vehicle. When I returned to my dealership I was told that aside from the dealer technicians, a master field technician from Nissan had also diagnosed my vehicle- all they did was drive my car 300 miles and left me with a dry tank. I was told that I had a broken ECU connector clip- which was total BS. The dealer techs had told me that the master field tech had put tape on the connector piece to cover it up. I demanded they show me and sure enough there was tape covering some plastic piece. I know for a fact that that piece was not broken. I got a call later that night from the Nissan One rep. He had told me that he had received the report from the master field tech- on this report, the master field tech claimed that I had attempted to cover up a broken ECU connector piece and that he suggested Nissan void my manufacturer AND extended warranty!!! I was told by the Nissan One rep that he was cancelling my warranties and that since I no longer had a warranty, I no longer had a case with Nissan and that I would in no case get a repurchase- ****insert extreme vulgar language here****
I took it upon myself to get a current status printout of my warranty with Nissan about two weeks later. To my surprise, the Nissan One rep was just BSing me and did NOTHING to my warranty. I opened a case with the BBB Autoline and pursued to get my repurchase. I provided all service records and had an abritration hearing with that same Nissan master field tech. We both presented our cases- his was nothing but BS and lies! The funny thing is, he got caught up in his lies when explaining the tape on the connector piece and the arbitrator saw that. I left the hearing feeling a bit defeated. Fortunately I heard back from the BBB about two weeks later with the great news that I would be getting my repurchase for almost my original purchase amount. Everything went smoothly and I had a date to drop off my vehicle. Out of curiosity, I lifted the tape that was placed on the broken ECU connector piece the night before dropping off my vehicle. It was clearing broken with force- lots of force. The Ecu cables were clearly visible!! I put the tape back on and returned the vehicle the next day. I received my check and drove straight out of there without even looking back.
I'm not gonna lie, I was extremely sad when dropping off my car. Ideally I wouldve loved to keep my car- nice styling, great mileage, and comfortable- however whenever I looked at my vehicle, I saw nothing but problems. Sadly, someone else is going to end up with my vehicle down the road. With that being said- I have a couple of parts for sale.
