Tires are the main aim of the bill, which seeks to prohibit parts availability if there are choices that decrease greenhouse gas emissions. It amounts to a back-door fuel economy standard, which is the jurisdiction of the federal government unless you're California –and even they need a waiver.

What a joke. I wonder how much thought was put into this... Does it snow in Oregon? Does anyone in the state use snow tires? Doesn't snow tires reduce mileage (and increase control)? But hey, what do I know... Prohibition worked once, and it can work again!

this is the first i've heard of this, but there's very little info. I don't believe this would pass and you would think they would go after the big timers before the small timers. it just doesn't seem very logical.

This seems to be more stemmed off of the bill that was in Congress about destroying old cars and forcing people to buy new ones...

Either way it's gay and whoever thinks this stuff up should be peed on.

These bills are gaining traction and they are VERY bad for our hobby, jobs, and economy. Please take them seriously and send your congressmen letters.

The government is trying VERY hard to limit automotive use and the vehicle's that people purchase. The only way to have a voice in this is to notify your congressmen. Keep in mind that the complainers in this country have a louder voice and they are more actively campaigning and voting than the rest of us. The only way to to protect our hobbies is to hit the politicians where it counts...In their "popularity polls." If they feel like they won't get voted back in to office because of a bill passing, they won't allow it to pass...It's that simple...

This is just one more article about the politicians trying to destroy our hobby.

The day I turn in my truck is the day they stick a catalytic converter up a cows ***...Animal's pollute FAR MORE than modern vehicle's.

This stuff is the tip of the iceberg. And yes, ESP, the movement is coming to Canada. There is talk of outlawing all aftermarket 'performance parts' in the wake of the new 'anti street-racing' legislation implemented here in Ontario and elsewhere across North America. Lobbyist groups have a lot of pull with politicians and the latter are not opposed to using legislation to gain favour with the lobbyists. The result is that all enthusiasts may suffer because a few maniacs have given us all a bad name. Knee-jerk, reactive politics seem to be the order of the day - ban something that thousands use responsibly because a handful misuse it.

Don't underestimate the politics involved. Keep on top of the issues your local politicians are exposed to, and make your own voice heard - dragging along as many supporters as you can. If you sit back and do nothing, this stuff is gonna happen!

True Story! I belong to another sports bike forum and in one of their recent post I saw this from a member:

Quote »Just wanted you guys to know about the new bill that NYC plans to pass. http://files.meetup.com/1321054/LetUsBeHeard.pdf

This is a meetup group that I also join up with in the fight. Alot of people are calling up Aftermarket exhaust companies and the AMA is also joining the fight against City Hall. They want to fine you 1000.00 bucks if you don't have a EPA STAMP even if you have a stock exhaust system. If they can't tell its a EPA exhaust, its like its your fault. Thats why this law is stupid. Please read the pdf file above it will tell you more on the link.

http://www.meetup.com/bill416/] [/quote]Basically guys, if you're riding a motorcycle and are near it when a NYPD cop comes around they can fine you if they can not see the EPA stamp. Mind you now, most consumers don't know where this sticker would be or located on a motorcycle let alone a seasoned rider. Some stickers are just that, they're stickers and are place on the exhaust and obviously are "burned" off after a couple riding sessions. I don't see a NY cop getting down on their backs on that cruddy a$$ NY street to look for a sticker under a bike. If they don't see it, here's your fine!

So seeing this thread doesn't surprise me at all and as Ferguson said, is just the tip of the iceburg.

I'm sure the movie series of the Fast and the Furious doesn't help the situation since it pretty much indulges the "street racer" in all of us..especially within the younger audience.

Very well said Dangeris and thank you Robpaulson, Dangeris and Ferguson for contributing to this.

This is a BIG problem guys. The government is considering doing some really stupid stuff right now and they're about to hurt alot of jobs as well as our hobby.

Local governments are starting to crack down on aftermarket parts but they don't have any knowledge of what they're talking about. All of their claims are completely ridiculous and unfounded. But, because no one is speaking up about it, they seem like "experts." Take that idiot Al Gore for example...

Do not let your hobby get taken away from you. Protect yourself and your hobbies!

Perhaps the guys at NICO could put up something on the main page discussing the current government laws and bills that are being discussed right now?

I am a pretty laid back person by nature and I don't really speak up much. However, I am very worried about this situation and I am scared to see what may happen over the next few months.

Thanks for the link. I don't even know who was our congressman but now I know and I used that to "voice" my opinion since after all, congress should be representing the people.

If anyone out there decides not to take action as I did, better known as the silent majority", then don't biatch and complain when a bill gets passed as a law in your state that takes away your hobbies / rights from you.

I am finally getting around to writting my congresswoman but . . . i dont even know what to say . . . "hey guiz, dont take my toys, people will lose jobs and the economy will be worse off if u screw this up" lol

dangeris whatd u say?? I'm usually good at sounding professional when it comes to contacting people like this . . . but i feel i'm just not educated enough on the bills themselves to say anything!

(and btw, i think this is a big issue with alot of people, they just dont know what to write, or maybe i just belong on the short bus lol)
