The Owners Manual says Infiniti recommends mineral-based oil. Do you know why? I have used synthetic oil in the past with excellent results - over 150,000 miles on each vehicle. Is this just a way to force more frequent oil changes, or what? Will Mobil-1 void the warranty? Thanks!

Hello,While they recommend mineral oil, they do not require it. I use Mobil 1 as well and have it done at the dealer. My guess would be the issues of consumption that sometimes affects both the VQ35 and VK45 motors related to synthetic oil being thinner and exiting the seals. The big requirement is legal documentation of having the oil changed at minimum every 7,500mi/6mos. This documentation must include miles,vin,date,...etc. Dino or synthetic, the oil must meet minimum standards that most all commercial oils do.

Unfortunately, no longer a Nissan or Infiniti, but continuing here at NICO!

Agreed!

I use Mobil 1 Synthetic 0W-40 for a good all-year-round engine oil. But, I don't have to. Given that I change oil and filter every 3750 miles regularly, any good oil would do just fine!
