Last week on a particularly nasty rock obstacle, I broke the long side inner axle shaft on my Dana 44 solid front. Made a neat sound.
This was on the stock 30 spline 1.31" shaft. On Monday I ordered upgraded Chrome moly shafts from Alloy, and they showed up yesterday.
Fishing the broken splined portion of the axle out of the diff carrier was fun with magnets, but I got it out of there. The Chromo shafts are said to be 40% stronger than stock. We'll see. The best part about the new shafts is their no questions asked 10 year free replacement warranty!
The truck is 4wd again and ready for the next trail.
Here's the place where the right front got total traction and snapped the axle:
My wife had her own oops moment too (now you know why I put so much armor on that truck
Here's our frend Brent showing off in the rocks. I couldn't play here because of the busted axle, but I did finish the trail in 3wd, and used the front locker to engage the good axle when I needed it.
Here I am near the end of the trail. Made it, despite a broken front axle.
