I just finish replacing the shocks and struts in my '93 J30. Also replaced a dead fuel injector. Take the car out for a test ride and the oil light comes on. First just at idle, and goes off when revved, but then it stays on. Drove another mile or so to get back home, and valve lifters are making a racket.

What am I looking at? Bad pump? Where is it, and what drives it?Anything else that could cause this sudden loss of pressure?

Jon.

what is the milage??, the oil pump is crank shaft driven, to replace it, the oil pan has to be dropped which means an engine pull.... the oil pump is listed in the 120K mile engine maint. .... , if you lifters are ticking, or you hear knocking coming from the engine, then the oil pump is pretty much gone, you can check it using a oil pressure gauge, remove the oil pressure switch and put in the oil gauge and turn the engine on, and see what you get....

i hope this helps, good luck

136K miles.Lifters clacking, some knocking.Looked in oil filler hole while engine running, and see no oil sloshing up to the cam.

Engine has to come out to replace the pump???

Any idea what a shop would charge for this?

i would only be guessing, but i'd say about 400+ for labour, plus the price of the pump

Thanks tt.

Know where I can get the service manual procedure for this, preferably in pdf?
