First off I do not want this topic to turn into a performance post, don't tell me to upgrade my car. Now, my problem is this, I have no low end power. The car is an 89 auto STOCK. It is a daily driver, not a race car. I just put a new head on it, don't know how it ran before this because it didn't run when i got it. Valve timing, ignition timing, compression are all good and right. Vacuum leaks seem to be cured, i did find a couple bad hoses, but replaced them. The tps is good and the right one for the auto. Basicly I want to know if this has happened to anyone else and what it could be. Oh, and the timing chain, gears, and guides/tensioners are new. Again please don't tell me to swap the motor or turbo it or do anything that's not stock.

Auto robs a ton of power from the engine as is, if I drve my manual 240 (89 hatch) then drive my auto 240 (89 hatch) im astounded by the difference, the gearing on the auto's just isnt right for low end imo, high end either too =(.

Do a FULL tune-up. Air filter, fuel filter, plugs, wires, dist cap & rotor, and anything else I forgot about. Seafoam is some good stuff.

full tune up i've done, o2 sensor, coolant temp sensor, even throttle position. whan i say no power, i mean NO power. if i floor it off the star it almost dies, cruising down the road at say 2000 and give it gas the revs actually go down then go up

My FSM says lack of power is either bad fuel pressure or an intake air leak.

What is the condition of the trans have you changed fluid in a wile? A bad going bad torque converter can also be the cause it to be sluggish. you did say it was an 89?

Agreed, it may be a torque converter. Maybe try checking your plastic piping coming out from your air box for cracks. That can damper performance. Hot glue or silicone for ghetto repairs.

Hello:

Been a lurker here for some time. I saw this thread, and thought I might suggest checking your MAF sensor and your intake temp sensor. This would cause the problems you have described.

Hope this helps.

David
