I've had my 89 240sx for a couple months now and after having some minor electrical issues, mostly due to a alternator covered in oil and grime, I got around to swapping my headlights out for a pair of silverstars. I noticed when i tried to aim them that they seemed a little high. when they are turned on normal, I'm fairly certain it's illuminating my high beams (any way to check for sure?) and when i click the high beams on it shuts off the light completely (but leaves the pop-ups raised). I'm fairly handy with a voltmeter I just need to know what to track it down to. any help would be great guys. anyone had a similar issue?

my cousin had the same problem with his Z. it was his dimmer switch. maybe yours too... but his rear lights went out at the same time. until he rewired the switch.

i'm not sure that it's my dimmer switch although it is doing nothing at the moment. It's an up down toggle to the right of the steering column, correct? yeah that's not functioning either. lights on the dash are fine but they are a set brightness. I really don't care for a sleepy eye mod but it would be terribly nice to have low's and high's. that's the only electrical issue i know of aside from a very worn out aux power socket that needs a new socket end and my brake light switch that needed the wires reinsulated to keep it from leaving my brake lights on. is there a good way to test the dimmer without just going to buy a new one.

take a look at the wiring sometimes the wires sometimes they are burnt or the switch its self may be burnt.
