I recently bought a 1991 s13 hb and only have off and on warm air until yesterday. the temp gauge hadnt worked til yesterday cruising on I-95 it slowly moved slightly above the cold mark at this point i turned on my heat and had hot air not my usual warm then cold air then the temp gauge fell back to its usual resting place on the lil post below cold but i still had heat. the next start up after a lil rest blew the usual warm/cold air after sufficent warm up of 30+ mins of driving and idling. does anyone else experience this or know what it could be? do i have a lower t-stat and i dont get heat purely because my motor doesnt heat the coolant enough or could it be other things? i live in PA so colder weather is about to hit.

I think the cold weather already hit like a month ago dude, but as for your problem I'm not sure.

I would maybe change the thermostatFlush the cooling system and add fresh fluidCheck to see if the heater core/coolant passages arn't clogedChange coolant temp sensor

i was thinking of doing all that. its only gonna get colder but i own no garage and was hoping there was something faster easier and cheaper to do so im gonna start with new hoses and coolant probly

New hoses wont fix that problem, why not start with coolant temp sensor and thermostat and coolant flush. That would make sense.

First thing I would do is change the coolant temp sensor to fix your temperature gauge problemBut thats not going to fix the actual heat problem so next I would change thermostat and check the heater core
