It's finally getting cool enough here to want a little heat in the car on the cooler mornings but when I turn the temp up using the "ECONO" mode, the air that comes out isn't what I would call hot or very warm. The ambient temp was in the 60's so I should be able to feel something. Any tips on what I should be looking at?

Thanks,Pat

Do you know when your heater core was last flushed?

No, I sure don't. I have had the car for 8 months. The antifreeze was changed 2 years ago but I don't know if they flushed the heater core. When I was doing the knock sensors, I saw the heater hoses and imagine it won't be easy to back flush the heater core. I was also thinking it may be the heater door not opening fully but a plugged core is also on the list.

Low coolant, bad (open) thermostat, defective door solenoid, improper coolant mix. Start here.

Great suggestions, also put it on AUTO, set the temp to 80 (or highest) and see if it feels warm at all.

Id also keep it on 80 for a long time, and see if maybe you have some air bubbles in it.....

Have you already performed the climate control self diagnosis?

Since it is 94-96 check the heater air mix door for broken posts, so common we do 2-3 per year now........................in a way the chain guides of the 94 series [expense] all though not engine terminal like the guides. .............just the repair costs.

What's the best way to view the heater air mix doors for broken posts?

I wasn't aware of a climate control self diagnosis, is it in the FSM? This car monitors everything, simply amazing.

I have been driving it around with it in "econo" and the temp max'd out at 85 and the temp has been tempid at best. Do you think putting it in "auto" will make a difference? Right now I tell my wife, "You better dress warm or you can drive the Escort or the Dodge Diesel". She still would rather drive the Q...

The coolant level is topped off and thermosthat is new since I did the knock sensors 2 months ago.

I think it's either the heater air mix door is inop or the core is plugged since the heater gets used very rarely here in South Texas.

I gotta check this out too....the Heater went out in the Q today. Driving in San Francisco it was cold.

used Auto,Econo, 85 nothing. Freezing cold. Couldn't really hear anything mechanical related to the heater core.

Any ideas? I topped off the radiator wiht about 3 cups of distilled water. The temp of the car rises normally, so Im guessing thermostat works.

Self diag? I'll search.

China: T-stat replaced (Nissan part) and heater core and entire cooling system flushed this year. Do you hear the mix doors working in the dash as you change the temperature?

Thats the thing, I didnt, usually theres a few clunking/flapping noises. Didnt hear anything as I moved through the temp. range. I took out the passenger under-dash cover to get the speaker wire from the door, mebbey I moved something.

Yep! Procedures, diagrams, and all. I believe the black box for it is resting in the rear center armrest of your car. Its still in Washington at my friend's house. I'll have it shipped when I get back to St Louis.
