I just got done rebuilding and installing a KA24de into my 91 240sx. It had a tapping noise before on top. when I took off the v cover the little piece on to of the timing chain was busted off. But now I see you really don't need that. Now when I start the car it will also make the same noise as before? I also don't have any heat but yet the tempeture gauge went all the way up to hot? I also have a lot of steam coming out of the exhaust and water on the ground till it warms up? So can you tell me what is going on with this thing???

lack of heat and overheating is signs of an air pocket in the cooling system. you need to jack up the front end high as possible and fill it with the bleeder screw on the intake manifold removed(near the front has a brass washer under it) once you get no air bubbles from the bleeder put the screw back in and start it with the cap off let it get to operating temp and add coolant as needed. steam in exhaust is not a prob if you have moisture in the am that would be normal. if once it was warmed up then I would say its a prob.

Does the noise go away once the car is warmed up? if so it might be the tensioner is pumping up. check your oil level and make sure your useing a factory or equivelnt filter. they have a check valve in them to prevent oil from running out of the oil galley when the car is shut down.
