How do the Chilton's books compare to the Haynes? I have used the Hayens for most of the work on my integra, and will be swapping in a newer Ka into my 90 240. Was hoping to do the swap into a car with the engin in it already so all i had to do was the removal in reverse. Think it will be hard with the engine already out...

my only expeirence with haynes and/or chiltons is using them on my friends '90 geo prizm, and my other friends '92 tercel.

I've never seen either for a 240sx, but it doesn't matter. Get a factory service manual. Much better.

Agreed. The Chilton stuff ranges from mediocre to just plain wrong. FSM is $70-something well spent if you're going to be doing a lot of work on your car. Isn't $70 close to the rate for an hour of labor at some dealerships?

Or if you're cheap like the majority of us, just search or beg someone for the 90' FSM in PDF format. It's out there...

Go to your library - steal the Chiltons 240SX Altima book, don't go back. Worked for me.

Where do I find it for that amazing price? The Nissan dealer here wants $198CDN for it.

I found the Haynes manual for my old 83 Accord to be ok. While it had alot of good info on major repairs, what I really needed was some of the Owner's Manual info (tire pressures, recommended oils, how to change this and that) which the Haynes didn't have.

The Chilton's for my 1991 Honda Civic (manual for 1984-1995 Civic) however was almost a stand in for an FSM. I skimmed through a Stanza/240SX pignose Chilton's (or was it Haynes) manual in a local Half-Price books. I wasn't impressed.

I guess some of their authors are better than others.

I compiled some guides for the swap a while back, the only hard part is keeping airconditioning.

I agree about the chiltons, thing sucks. I don't trust it at all anymore. I try and stick to using the factory service manual as much as possible.

There is a Haynes guide for 240sx, or at least there was... It was a combination S13 & S14 guide.

When I worked in the receiving dept. at Barnes & Noble I ordered the manual and it was all wrong. They had the SOHC motor in the S14!!! Unbelievable!!! And no DOHC motor at all.

I sent it back and complained that they were mixing everything up and the publisher told me it wqas a brand new publication with very little requests. Then they cancelled the printing and appolgized. It was funny.

That guide was for a s14 ka into a 89/90 chasis but using an s13 ecu etc. Would it not be better to use a s14 ecu? Just wondering..

I am actually surprised, for the 3,4,5th gen Civics the Chilton's was very helpful. I gave it to my friend when I sold him the car, but if I remember right it even listed fuse numbers in the wiring diagrams.
