I was driving to work and glanced down at the instrument cluster to notice my gauges were dead.

No speedometer, tachometer, or engine temperature and the odometer wasn't moving.

Got to work; Turned the vehicle off and restarted it and everything was working.

Has this happened to anyone before?

okay soo the nissan dealer scarborough nissan never called me againi took it to my personal mechanic (great guy btw!) and he inspected the cluster. He said he could get me a used one for $275 and after installation everything could come under $400..however it wouldnt guarantee wether it will fix the problem or not.He called nissan to see how much a new one would cost...they quoted me believe it or not$1200 for a new one..and i would have to send them my current one or a receipt indicating my current mileage.

My dad took it at some other mechanic open 24 hrs where they took itfor a scan test and found 2 gauges where faulty..speedo and tach since the temperature and the fuel works. They also tried to convince him they would never work again and it needed to be fixed asap or else he could run into "problems with the law"my dad just laughed his *** and told them the failure is temporary but annoying...but they never gave up by threathning him he only had a 1% chance of them ever working again..as soon as they pulled to the drivewayBAMMM!! in there faces the gauges all came alive

all signals from sensors passes thgrough speed gauge, there is a circuit inside. I removed everything once when attaching LEDs for illuminaiton. If the chips or componets are dead, you can loose the gauges intermitently. Also there is a ribbon cable inside gauge, which carries all signals coming from sockets to speed gauge, that ribobn cable can be the reason too. I broke mine then i fixed it, that is how i know. Once i broke it, only woprking gauges were fule and tempereture. While i am trying to fix the ribbon cable, those are gone dead and tachometer returned back to life, so i removed ribbon cable and reattached it with a new socket so all are working now. Replacign whole culster takes only 5 minutes. If it is same model of yours you can buy and you can replace it own by own. There 4 screws hoding cluster there. Remove them, tilt steering wheel while sliding your gauge oever it, then remove socket behind. There are three of them. That is all.
