Hey everyone. I just got myself a 1990 240sx. My biggest problem right now is the fact that none of my gauges work. The guy I bought it from is a friend of mine and he said that a few months before it broke down (another story got that fixed) the lights went out on the dash. A week later all the gauges quit working at the same time.
Well I found out the lights went out due a blown fuse. So now I have lights, but still no gauges. I had the cluster taken out, did a little research and found out that I was getting no power at all to my cluster. I rigged up some wiring going from my radio to the main power to the cluster, and gained a seat belt light and door open light. Still no gauges. Anyone have any idea on where to begin? Checked and double checked all fuses, and they used to all work once before. The car has a new gauge cluster and a new wiring harness in the dash going to the cluster. I would really love to have my fuel and coolant temp gauge working more than anything, but of course tach and speedo is a huge plus.

Welcome to NICO!
Good job getting started and researching some on your own.
Have you checked the under dash harness on the passenger side behind the glove box to see if it was re-pinned? Its a classic step needed to complete the SR20 swap as well as single cam to dual cam engine swaps.

Try this first and see if the connections were made properly. Note that you will also have to swap out the SOHC tach in the cluster to a DOHC tach.
Wiring:
1) Locate the body harness (under dash harness that attached to the ECU) that attached to your old harness. Cut the old connector off (the one that attached to your SOHC harness) and attach your DOHC body harness connector. Just match the colors!

Yellow/Red –Tach
Yellow/Green–Speedometor
Orange–Ignition start
Black—Ground
Blue/Black—Water temp sensor

There will be some wires left over. These are for the SOHC’s diagnostic plug, and are unnecessary. Please note: Your car will NOT be able to hook up to a CONSULT tool.

2) Use a soldering iron to splice the wires together. It makes for a much cleaner job, and a cleaner electrical signal.

3) You need to swap out your tach if you want one that works. No wiring is involved, but it must be done. Simply pull your gauge cluster and remove the three screws behind the tach. Lift and separate. Replace.

and if it doesn't work, add a link to your thread in this thread:

and Papasmurf will be quick to help you out. If you need to use this option, tell us a little more about your car. Is this an HUD gauge cluster, the digital cluster, or the analog? What year engine? What year chassis?

Thanks for the info! My gauges were working properly once before from the previous owner before the swap including the tach, although I'm not sure if this new cluster is with the new or old tach. I can check to see if I have any signal coming from any of those wires though and see where I get with that.
