There are many exclusives that only the largest of tire companies can garner.

I can buy Kumho cheaper from TireRack wholesale, than I can buy from my own company at cost.

TireRack has exclusivity on some brands/models/sizes, Discount has their own market exclusives, and so on..

Now that surprises me! Whenever I have looked at prices at those places (Tire Rack and Discount Tire), the prices at Tire Rack have always been a bit lower. Of course, I am not counting sales or specials.

Has this changed recently? I will have to go look again!

Tirerack only carries the "best" brands, IE what most companies chose as OEM for their cars.. IE bridgestone, continental, michelin, etc..... THey only carry a few of the "cheaper" ones like sumitomo and kumho (which isnt one of those made by yokahoma?), which arent bad but theyre no SO3 or PS2's...

You gotta be careful with the falkens, only get the better ones... Ive heard some people say the lesser ones are really crappy, even for a crappy tire...

The nitto 555s are hard to beat for the price as well.. And its a decent tire, i know a LOT of people that have them (including myself)

ill take that into consideration..but i've been getting alot of good feedback on the falken ziexs, so i was contemplating on getting those..i guess i get what i pay for, 46 a tire. 302 for install/balance. im not looking for hardcore performer though.. just safe dd in heavy rain and also in dry pavement

but thanks again, ill take your advice into consideration1

All Falkens are made by Ohtsu, which sells it's own Ohtsu labeled tire model lines.Ohtsu was recently bought by Sumitomo.Falkens is Ohtsu is Sumitomo.

Kumho is poised to take Michelin's place in Formula 1, so don't mistake them for small time, but don't forget that all tire makers build cheap tires as well as high end and race tires.

Falkens (Ohtsu) (Sumitomo) have always made very good tires for the money.

totally ignorant statment. every falken tire ive used has performed admirably.

id guess that tire rack dosent sell falken because they cater to rich people who have no idea what size tires/wheels are on their car and dont care about paying like 200$ for michelin 195/60/15 mud and snow tires, because thats what came on the car so it must be the best. said crowd dosent want to buy ricer falken tires.

Ive been pretty happy with my Falken 512's. They are only 205/55/15 but they are pretty good. The only downside is that they just don't grip as well as my old Yokohama ES100's. But they have lasted longer

that's not bad. I think I paid about 360 dollars total for mine (ordered them on tires.com and had them mounted at a local tire store with new valve stems on stock alloys)

meh, about the same..i guess ill look around for the 55s or something, i have 60s on my stock alloys righ tnow, from what the prev. owner put on.. it is very ****ty setup, all different tires, different sizes. 215 on pass side, 205 on driv. side.

i went to tiresavings.com and it was pretty cheap there.. ill have to look around.

thanks for the info ElNegro

No prob. By the way the difference from 205/60 (prev. tire) to 205/55 was alot in my opinion. The 60's were just too "mushy" if you know what I mean.

Also a little fact: 195/60 are stock for s13's. 205/60 is a bit bigger (barely) and 205/55 is a bit smaller (barely).

hmm i see.. 60s are stock eh..i dunno, the 60 fits my budget quite well, but i guess i can shell 80 more or so.. i wouldnt care about the feeling of the tires.. but since they're the same type of tires, wouldnt they be same compound/have same grip/etc?

im sure alot of things changes things on that matter... tire width is one i suppose./

bought 4 sets of tires from tirerack, some for me some for friends

they are the cheapest in the yokohoma area in comparison with justtire, discount tire, tire.com

maybe not all brand though
