I had one memorable experience. Parked by a restaurant and was distracted and forgot to shut the engine off. Came back 2 hours later and the engine was still running with no key in the car. If this happened in the garage it would be a carbon monoxide poisoning. This is the problem with push button start no timed shut off unless you do it yourself. Anyone hear about a software fix to this issue?

I don't think really it's an issue that needs to be fixed. What's the difference if it was a turn-key? You may have still forgotten to turn off the engine and it still would have run, right? I can't say I've ever forgotten to turn off my car, turn key or push start. No offense.

The car will make a very loud beep when you get out with the key and its still running. I also don't think it will let you lock the doors if the engine is still running. You must of been pretty distracted and/or hungry for dinner.

Be careful. Someone could have driven off with it and it would not give them any issues until they shut it off, at which point it will not restart.

Car will allow you to lock keys with the car on as long as the key isn't in the car (locked from the door handle I mean). That's how I warm my car up at work back when I worked in an office. If you leave the key in the cup holder and try to lock the car from the outside via the door handle, then it won't lock.

If you're forgetting to turn off a car it may be time to see a doctor.

Don't take this the wrong way but the worst part of this story is that you think there is a software issue here.

Also, to add, I did a test with my brother who drive my car down the street with the key in my pocket sitting on the porch because I had started it and walked away. He would not have been able to start it once he shut it off...so a thief will only get so far :gapteeth: . This did happen at the local full-service car wash, but I was 15ft away so no biggie.
