This morning after starting my 06 G35 everything looked normal until I switched the headlights on. The entire dashboard then goes dark including the audio display, heater, A/C controls, clock, etc. Turn signal indicators light up ok as does the cruise control indicators. Turn the headlights off and dashboard lights up as normal.Has anyone experienced this problem? Is there a relay somewhere that perhaps crapped out?

Never mind. Stupid me. After checking the owners manual, I must have accidently touched the dashboard light dimmer control.

Readjusted the dimmer control and all is working.

Yes it was after I had my coffee that I remembered the dashboard dimmer control.

It was dark last night and I was trying to feel the trunk release to pop the trunk open. I must have accidently touched the dimmer switch. At least I didn't call the dealer complaining about the quality of the dashboard lighting.

Do you get paid by the job then? I would think you guys were salary, or an hourly wage-not commission...Sears did that crap in the 80's that completely tarnished their rep and the rep of auto repair workers.

At least you found it before hitting up the dealer. I would have taken it to the dealer and then felt like a tool the rest of the day.

Mine seems to have developed an occassional rattle coming from the front passenger side. So far I've just been cranking up the stereo. Any suggestions as to what the cause?

I had the same problem. I drove around last night unable to see the instruments. I did set the cruise control to the max legal speed. I had no idea what was causing it. I removed the fuse cover in the passenger compartment to look for a blown fuse. Gave that up pretty quick. Then I had a flash of inspiration and went to the Internet and found this forum. Thanks for sharing your story. You saved me time and money. :)

ha-ha-ha...Sorry to laugh at your story but not realizing you hit the dimmer switch is hilarious. That's as bad as wondering why your headlights are turning on and off at different times during the day then finding out about the auto headlights on your car for the first time. :lolling:

I've actually done that 2 times. Once when I was leaving to return home from 100 miles away at dusk. I was assuming the worst for probably 10 minutes until, for some reason I turned the dimmer switch and viola, lights. For the life of me,I don't know how the thing got turned off to start with.

I once reached down to turn off the traction control , and accidently hit the trunk release button. :shifter:
