no dash lights

I have no dash lights on a 1991 nissan 300zx also when i touch the brake pedal a light that looks like a headlight comes on in the upper left of the dash. lights work on dash like high beams cruise etc, just no back light to see speed at night. I just bought it today

try checking the grounding for the radio and fuses. common problem with alot of cars is when people are installing radios with no experience, alot of exposed wires end up touching that shouldnt and end up shorting out alot of fuses, there fore lights and other functions of the car.

Also check your dimmer switch. If it's unpluged no backlighting works...
