i was replacing the alternator accesory belt and one of the wires from the alt. touched the motor and made a spark. from that point on my electrical system started acting funny, there was a whining sound from the alternator and was only charging at 12 volts, my power windows only worked when i reved the motor, radio would not turn on right away. on my drive home the gas light, temp light, air bag light came on and the car started bogging out and then it cut out while on the freway. so i turned everything electrical off and started the car again and made it home with all my lights still on. i turned the car off and it would not start up again. i got a new battery and alternator and put them both in and nothing but my headlights work.

note to self: unhook negative battery cable before playing in the engine compartment... a good thing to do & it'll reset your ecu back to factory specs while you're wrenching...

did you check for fuses & or continuity test to that wire?

recharge that battery if it was drained... then look for a parasitic drain/ those fuses & that test on the wire that sparked...

Check your 75A ALT fuse in the engine compartment. One of my friends hooked a battery charger to my car bckwards and blew mine. Gave me a lot of the same symptoms... Good luck.
