My 93 Q45 has no dashboard illumination, no rear running lights... but when I press the brake pedal everything lights up until I release the pedal, everything goes dark again.
Does this sound familiar? I need help

A couple of things to check.....

Remove the brake lamp modules in the light assemblies. Look for signs of melted sockets, burnt wires, flattened bulb contacts. Also remove and open up the brake/tail lamp sensor located inside the trunk under the lock. Look for signs of melting on the circuit board especially in the ground circuit. The sensor is over $100 and only available at the stealership so I'd start with inspecting the lamp modules and replace the bulbs with long-lasting (Silverstar?) bulbs.

Thank you Goody, I removed both rear light modules and inspected each light socket and did find discrepancies all of the Dual element contacts were melted, I tested each module without the bulbs for shorts and open circuits, all good, installed SilverStar bulbs.
I removed the brake light module, opened it up and inspected the circuit board and the components all is normal inside no heat marks no melting no signs of thermal stress...I tested the brake lights and turn signals... all is well.
turned the head lights on, no rear running lights or rear side marker lights, until I step on the brakes ?
When I release the brake pedal rear running lights and side markers turn off. I really can't see if I have dash illumination until night fall, its very sunny here in California. I'm wondering if there is another relay somewhere that has melted contacts?

Problem Solved thanks to GOODY !!!
Your advise was spot on!
The reason the rear running lamps and dash lamps would illuminate when pressing the brake pedal at night was because the cheap dual element brake lamp bulb had melted contacts ,And the illumination fuse was blown ?? Thanks again ! You Rock Goody !!?
