Summery for issue:
Battery is NOT a factor
Starter is NOT faulty
Battery cables are NOT at issue
Car was getting a new intake gasket, new valve cover gaskets and a new water pump. Also new plugs were installed due to the ease of doing them.
Job went smoothly other than slicing my finger badly on the lower intake gasket. Car will not crank. No signal to starter. Wiring to starter from firewall forward is intact, and tests fine.
Push button and the car turns ON, but with brake pedal pushed, no crank. I can jumper the starter and car fires right up and runs perfect. Will not restart unless jumpered.
Nothing under dash was touched. Only the two grounds on the driver side upper timing cover were touched and are both clean and firmly attached. Coolant sensor was tested and reads accurately.
Diagnostic codes are only U1000
I've read the service bulletin on the issue and have spent many many hours pouring over the factory service manual on this site. I have a reasonable skill level with cars, and how the systems work, but the "Intelligent Power Distribution Module" confuses me a bit. I am unclear as to which condition for starting is not being met. The vehicle will not start in neutral or park.
From the service manual, the switch sends a signal to the IPDM with then checks for neutral safety switch continuity, and then sends signal to the starter. The brake switch must be grounded when this happens.
Is there any ideas or input that anyone has that may be useful?
