No Check Engine light

Okay, I live in California and I need to get a smog check in the next month. I currently have a 1990 KA24E with a replaced cluster gauge that I bought outside of CA. When I turn the switch to electrical, all my lights turn on except for the check engine light. In fact, my cluster doesn't even have a check engine light design on it. Does anyone have a solution that may they be able to think of? Thanks in advanced!

replace the light bulb (or take the black electrical tape off)

Gross, Im sorry you have to deal with that. To the OP, you can get a cluster for pretty darn cheap on here.

I have another question.... I still have the digital gauge that first came with the car when I bought it, and the check engine light still works on there; however, the digital speedometer gauge doesn't work. Can they fail me if my speedometer is not functional? Remember I live in California where smog checks are pretty picky ^_^;;;

Most def they can, they even do that in PA. The speedo is manditory, but most people around here just give stickers to the older cars.
