2002 Altima 6 cyl. 110,000 mi. I went in for an Emissions test, and it failed do to "check engine light" not coming on when the key was turned. Now Nissan wants to charge me $600 to fix it. They are putting in a new dashboard. Do I have any recourse? Has any one heard of this?

They are putting in a new dashboard for a CEL not working? Sounds like the light bulb in the dash either went out or the ECU is screwed up and isn't lighting it like it should. Don't let Nissan fix it for that kind of money. That's like a kid being lured into a van by a stranger. Tell them you'll pay for parts and give them $20 for labor.

BTW, the bulb is about $0.50, so I'd take a run at changing it out yourself since the dash doesn't even have to be removed (at least I don't think). I think you can take the 3-pod cluster out by itself. Can anyone else confirm this??
