No check engine light on 89 HUD cluster? Help

I posted this in the 240 section and I got the same response, saying that the 89 sohc HUD has no check eng light and no one knows why. How am I suppose to know if something is wrong? Base it on how it runs or what?

you can still pull codes from the ecm just like a car that has a light. the procedure is listed on 240sx.org look for the link that says ecm codes for sohc

Thanks NISTECH that 240 link was nice. I knew that just listening to the motor wasn't it, maybe because it didn't have a carb, and had a computer in it
