Alright is this true... taking the cat out and running just a straight pipe that will burn up the valves or bend a vavle? is that true?

Um..... no

All it will do is pollute. But in Louisiana, they dont really care, so i just gutted my cat.

You will, however, get a nice black spot on the bumper right above the tailpipe. By product of no cat is more carbon buildup on bumper.

Back pressure is always bad, and nothing you could do to your cat could concievably destroy valvetrain componentry on a close to stock KA. I'd suggest you stop listening to your buddy's car "advice" from now on.

I've never gotten any varification of this but from what a tech I use to work with mentioned was that if your exhaust is dumping out of the head, and isn't being carried away by a manifold or some piping it can potentially burn the valves and cause damage.

Again, never had any varification of that but that was what I was told. As far as if you have a manifold on or anything more than that... its all safe. Look at NHRA drag-class cars, they have straight pipes from each cylinder, it just needs to be carried away from the motor.

todays monolithic cats have almost 0 resistance to exaust gases... the brick has some 400 holes per square inch or something like that... which is why it is also stupid to gut one because it offers no gain in power... well maybe like 1hp...

now if you had an older car that still had the older style cat (the kind with the "b-b's") then by all means gut that son of a gun for some hidden power and extra pollution, because they have a lot of resistance against exhaust gases...

Bend a valve?

How the **** would removing your catalytic converter BEND A VALVE?

Am I the only one who find that to be quite possibly the most absurd statement ever?

I think there is some confusion. if you run an engine with no exhust (i.e. not even an exhaust manifold) will bend your valves do to imediate cold air hiting hot valves... but gutting your cat will have no effect dont worry. makes you feel better i have had a gutted cat and strait back exahust for the last 35k miles.

I even said it wouldn't do **** to the valves cuz i done it before on a nissan alimta but i just wanted to check with you guys on Nico.

thanks.

Me thinkins god should change the way people modify engines and physics. Backpressure should be good. 97% of the population thinks backpressure brings about hidden power. Backpressure is the anicents secret to fast cars.
