Symptoms: Car will not go out of park without pushing down lock release, and I have no brake lights.

I had a similar problem before and it was melted bulb base. This time bulbs are not melted, fuses are all good, sensor in trunk I replaced about a year ago, I also tried a sensor that I got at a pick ur part but that did nothing to improve. Tail lights and turn lights all work fine. Any suggestions on what to do next?

Do you hear any noise coming from the Transmission Control Unit or shifter area? Usually there is no noise coming from the shifter area if its well greased but the car is old...

Do the brake lights work?

Without seeing the car I would say its the shift lock solenoid.

thanks for the amazingly quick responses. I will look at the brake light switch. Infinitiguy19, I do not hear any noise coming from the shifter area, the brake lights do not work at all, tail lights do work. I'm thinking it must be the switch. Ill look at that tonight and report back success (positive thinking here) tomorrow. Thanks so much for the help.

46512-H0101 Could be the clear / green rubber stopper. Try taping a dime up in between the switch and pedal. Shift lock will get you in gear I went through this for a bit. Could be the brake "switch" not sure the part number

Take a look at the sockets in the brake lamp module. If the bulb leads were melted then so were the leads on the sockets they plug into. Also inspect the wiring in the module looking for melted insulation or charring. Did you use long life (LL) bulbs when you replaced them?

Don't rule out the new brake lamp sensor as the culprit quite yet. A year is plenty of time to melt the ground wiring/circuit in any of the Q's sensors. If you're handy pull the brake sensor apart and look for melted or discolored solder, especially on the ground circuit. I was able to repair mine with a simple resolder of one solder joint.

Are all your dashboard, center console, and door lights working?
