BOVs protect your compressor from bearing damage and failure caused by compressor surge at higher boost pressures. Yes you can boost higher with a BOV, but not without additional tuning and supporting fuel & engine mods. I think most people out there with CAs are running BOVs as this is OEM equip.

Actually, bov's aren't oem equipment on CA's. As far as I know a CA was never produced with a blow off or recirculation valve from the factory, nissan started to add them with s13 sr's.

I'm not going to recirculate either, I have a sard r2d2 and an hks eids on the way, hopefully there won't be any stalling issues.

I will, Ive heard good things about the eids, it could be a really useful tool for the CA idle problems, even if your not running an open bov, and its cheap.

R2D2 is the same guts as the Blitz DD, so it should be fine. I run a HKS SSQV, and properly adjusted, there are no idle issues and no surge on shifts.

Yeah, I had an ssqv on my sr a few years ago, they are nice, never had any issues with it. From what I here though, the design of the blitz, sard, arc etc is alot more problematic when it comes to these issues plus the ca is prone to being a pita when it comes to idling and running atmospheric bov's. So I got the eids to be safe, its only about 100.00 shipped new.

Other than turning the screw and seeing what happens how exactly do you adjust the BOVs anyhow? I've got a Prof Sheepdog BOV and its just set to whatever it was at on the SR it came from (presumably SR, it was on a SR hotpipe..)

Crank it tight and set your boost. Now back off the preload until you notice the boost fall off which means it is leaking and tighten it a little. You want just enough spring tension to contain the boost but not so tight that it doesn't respond quickly when it needs to do it's thing.

Even if that goes when it's warm, your engine has ring dramas or stretched bolts issues. If and when you decide to run some good boost like 15 or better, you should see your oil can filling up fast or your open breather spitting oil all over your engine bay. Either way, it's time to to refreshen that puppy.
