If you dont hear the bov open, its not getting boost... The wastegate you wont hear until u reach full boost.. thats if your dumping to atmosphere.

On your boost gauge, does it read vacuum AND pressure or pressure only..??

I hit boost when i smash the pedal to the floor. I bought the turbo of a member on nico it was rebuilt. That is what he said turbo looked really good no play at all I used a boost leak tester to check for boost leak.

It is really hard to read your thread without complete sentences. I don`t know if you did a book leak test or not. It sounds like you have a 5psi wastegate spring unless you still have boost leaks.

I dont ever hear the wastegate go off. I only hear the blowoff valve. The blowoff valve goes off when I am in 3rd gear. I dont hear it go off in first or second gear. I will try it again today to see what gear it goes off in.

Oh yeah nevermind about the wastegate. The spring is set at 10 psi and I havent reached that yet.

what wastegate are you using? So you took apart your wastegate to make sure it had the proper spring in it?

I am using a tial wastegate. No, I have not taken it apart I am just going to test it and see. When I bought it, it was a 10psi spring

Can u hit 5 psi in 1st and 2nd..?? If u cant hit 10 psi, then either ur turbo is shot or u have a boost leak somewhere, or your wastegate spring is shot...

Does your boost gauge read vacuum and boost or just boost only..??

Well today I went out for a drive and now I can hit about 1 psi through out the gears. I gauge is boost and vacuum.

Do this, when ur in idle what vacuum reading do u get..? U should be somewhere around ~20 inches at ~800 rpm..

Start to drive and get that boost gauge needle to hit ZERO and try to hold it there.... and if u can hold it there, see if the motor starts to shake really bad... if it does then u have a vacuum / boost leak somewhere. It can be either in the manifold itself or somewhere in the interooler / piping system.

If u can hold that boost gauge at zero and the motor is driving normally, then u dont have a boost leak..

Im assuming you know what the wastegate sounds like when it opens when it reaches full boost right..?? LOUD SSSHHHH sound.. Do u hear that while driving..?? If u do then the spring is stuck open or its gone bad to the point where 1 psi will compress it.. If so, that explains why u cant boost at all...

If the bov is leaking, it will prevent the motor from ever reaching full boost "depending" on how much it is leaking...

If u have a boost controller, remove it and try without it..

Next thing would be the turbo that its shot...

There is only so many things that can prevent the motor from boosting and we done said them all... Especially on an aftermarket turbo setup where boost in NOT controlled by some sort of electronic device like ECU...

Let us know what else u find

When I drive witht the gauge as close to 0 as I can it drives good. I found a leak at the manifold. I have a ssac manifold and it had this bung in the side with a fitting in it for something. When I got the manifold the hole was plugged, now the hole was open. I plugged the hole up. I noticed with my in and out settings set at 10 I have a better idle and my safc is set in the negative numbers now instead of positive at idle. The car also idles alot better when I have my o2 sensor plugged in. I am going to get another bung welded in for the wideband. I do hear a shhhhhh sound but I think it is my bov. I will be able to give you better details tommorow when I get the bung welded in.

Since my turbo originally had a internal wastegate and I didnt do anything with the flap after I took the internal wastegate off and put the external wastegate on. I figure this is causing me to not build up much boost.

Then u dont hve a boost leak within the intercooler nor the piping or intake manifold..

Quote » I do hear a shhhhhh sound but I think it is my bov.
Are u sure its your bov and not the wastegate..???

Quote » Since my turbo originally had a internal wastegate and I didnt do anything with the flap after I took the internal wastegate off and put the external wastegate on. I figure this is causing me to not build up much boost.
If thats the case then that flap has no pressure to keep it shut from the original actuator that u removed... so as soon as the exhaust pressure starts to build, that flap will be forced to open and then all the exhaust gas will be re-routed thru that flap keeping you from hitting full boost... Thats why you cant build any pressure... Cause its all being re-directed thru that flap...

Something is wrong with my car for sure. I yesteraday it was running ok not the greatest since I thought I had to get it tuned. I had a check engine light on for MAF CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. I thought that I wired my safc wrong, so I fixed what I did wrong and then cleared the code. Well it was still running like **** so I checked for vacuum leaks couldnt find anything. So I decided to pull the ecu out and reset/or do the self test on it. When I did that the dang code came back up MAF CIRCUIT MALFUNCTION. Does this mean my MAF is dead? Do I need a new one? Could it mean that the wires got burned up? I dont understand this. One of my friends is going to bring a MAF over for me to try it out but he wont be able to bring it till saturday. Should I just get a new one or wait to see if that is the problem.

I unplugged my maf and the car seem to idle the same. Then while I was messing with my safc my friend says "hey this is unplugged" then plugged the connector into the maf then the car shut off. I turned the car back on and looked at the safc sensor check. The safc read in2 .005 volts and would go from .005 to .010 then back to .005. So I dont know if the maf is bad or if that is a correct reading. Also would pluging the connectors into the maf while the car is running short circuit the wires to the ecu? This sucks
