Hi, if I open the door with the key in the ignition, I do not get the beeping that tells you that you left them in there. Also, the car doesn't enter programming mode for the keyless entry nor does it beep when turned on. I have a feeling that these problems might be related. Thanks for any help. 1997 QX4 btw.

Check the fuses and wiring to the smart entrance control unit. See the FSM for detailed info. If fuses and wiring are ok, you will have to replace the unit. They go for about $40 on eBay. Make sure to get the exact same one as your original.

Download the 1997 Nissan QX4 factory service manual, electrical system.

On page 227 you will find info relating to the smart entrance control unit. It doesn't look like yours has a dedicated fuse.

Check the buzzer fuse (page 98) and remote fuse (page 186).

The buzzer section has a diagram showing the location of the SECU.

You can also search for '97 qx4 smart entrance control unit' to see what the part looks like, and what to look for.

Good luck.

Wow! Thanks for the detailed replay. I checked out those pages and couldn't really make heads or tails of them. So, basically I'm wondering which fuses I need to check in order to get my keyless entry and beeping going. Thanks for any more help!

Yep, I had this problem and it turned out to be a faulty door jamb switch. Try swapping it out with the one from the passenger door. Is your dome light also not working? That's another symptom of a bad jamb switch.

My door jam switches are fine. The light always stays off when the doors are closed.

Check fuse 24, a 7.5 amp fuse, fuse 12, a 7.5 amp fuse, and fuse 61, a 10 amp fuse. They are in the fuse box.

Check fuse "f", a 40 amp fuse, in the fusible link box (probably under the hood).

Finally, check your buzzer. It's located behind the instrument panel. Take a look at EL-98. It is described as "M27."

Try removing the buzzer, grounding it at terminal 3, and providing battery power to any of the other terminals. If you don't get any sound, the buzzer should be replaced.

In other words, run a wire from the negative post of your battery to terminal 3. Touch the wire from the positive terminal to either one of the other terminals. See if you get a sound with power supplied to any of them.

So I checked all the fuses with the exception of fuse 61 as my fusebox on the drivers side underneath a little storage cubby only went up to 28. The others tested fine and were good. I could not find the fuse "F" under the hood. Thanks for all your help!

Have you checked the buzzer itself, behind the instrument panel?

The buzzer works when I leave my headlights on, so I don't think thats the problem.

It sounds like an issue with your ignition key switch, then. That might be why you can't enter the fob programming mode.

Hi, just wondering if you ever got to the bottom of this problem as I have the exact same fault??
