So I got a free stripped 89 shell...put a harness on it, dohc motor, etc. Now I'm noticing I have no battery cables...can anyone provide pictures and stuff to tell me where I'd wire it into and stuff? It's like the last thing I need to get it to run.

I know the negative will ground on the block and the chassis, but the power cable goes to the starter and the alternator and I'd like to know where to wire it in at so I have a successful first try at starting the car.

Any help would be appreciated.

Hmmm.. Well if it doesn't have battery cables on the harness it should have some sort of cut wire on it. When the harness is hooked up (and it sounds like it is) look where the cable should be and hook in a new one.

positive cable goes into lower harness, starter, alt, fuse/relay box. if you dont have one you will want to get one that matches the chassis (if it was auto get an auto lower, 5speed - 5speed, get one from a 89-90 body) negative goes to chassis right near the battery tray and then continues on to the intake manifold (get a ground kit now, you will thank yourself later)

Okay, went ahead and took apart the harness for the most part...maybe you guys can point out if I've got it setup wrong and where exactly the cables are supposed to be wired in?

Overview of everything spread out:

Wires to alternator:

Wires to starter(2 black wires)

Wires to plugs around the relay box (Don't know what circled one plugs into??):

Couple things I noticed:^This thick white wire runs from alternator to a plug around the relay area.

^This less thick white wire also runs from the alternator to a plug in the relay area.

^This ground (A) runs from the alternator to the starter.

^This goes to a plug in the transmission

Now I think that accounts for all the wires on that section of the harness....do I have anything wrong? And where am I wiring the positive battery cable to? I didn't see anywhere that it would appear to go...

And I'm going to make my own grounding kit. I've got a nice hole where the battery tray should be, so I'm debating relocating the battery or just welding a new tray in place.

stock lower 5spd harness 91-93 body

these photos show the factory battery terminal with plugs for relay and fuse box. note the ground that goes to the alternator you had flaged to go to the starter. the thick battery cable goes from the battery to the starter and is heavy gauge. the other plugs go arround the relay box.

this photo shows the alternator area. two of these plugs go to the alternator, one ground strap to alternator, other single wire round plug goes to the oil pressure switch/sensor?whatever.

this photo shows the starter area. the upper plug goes to the starter and is the signal line. the thick wire with the metal tab on it goes to the starter and is the positive battery cable. the lower small plug goes to the speed sensor. the rest of the harness goes to the transmission.

ps. sorry bout the huge photos.

Sell me yours? Haha, but yeah those pics help. I can see what goes where...just need to figure out how to wire in the actual terminal part and where..

i just wanna put this out there...... the auto and five speed lowers are diffrent from each other and a 5 speed lower wont work in an automatic chassis, there will be a wireing diffrence, refer to the FSM for details.
