For some reason there is no backlight to my head unit for my s13, hasn't been for a long time, but now all of the sudden Im getting frustrated with it. I'm pretty sure I've wired it right, I'm not suppose to wire in the orange wires to anything right? Here's what my harness looks like, right now Im pulling of all the butt connectors Ive had on there and soldering them up

Heh. The orange is the illumination lead.

What kind of radio is it? it may not have an illumination wire to connect to the orange in the car side of the harness. It also could just have burned out bulbs.

yeah what kind of deck.. Some alpines have a stealth mode where the display is off until you hit a button. I could be way off but I definately would not hook up that orange wire. It is for illumination and has variable power. It's the quickest way to pop fuses and or set your car on fire other than do it yourself with a can of gas and a handful of matches J

The picture shows a standard "plain-jane" wiring harness. Yellow battery + red ignition only. If the lights are not working, then there is an internal problem with the HU.

Am I missing something, or do I only see two pairs of similar colored wires. In most harnesses I've seen this would mean it's only a two channel system

Front channels + red and yellow are going to one factory harness plug and the green/violet-or-blue rear-speaker wires are going to another plug.

LOL

If you look at the picture, you can see the harness runs to two plugs

It appears that the harness runs to one plug, and then from there it goes to the second plug

Ok, I didn't realize that the main connector is the one on the left. I'm used to the larger one being the main one

The larger one (labled as Front) is the "main" connector.
