Hello all.
Posting a question for my daughter concerning her 2017 Rogue, 4 cyl., automatic transmission, 2 wheel drive.
Yesterday evening, she was merging onto an expressway, found that her Rogue would not accelerate, started slowing down from the 45mph she was going. Her check engine light came on. She got to the shoulder, turned off car. Restarted it, engine light now off, and car operated normally.
Temperature outside was about 20 degrees at the time.
Car was brought into a repair shop. No codes showing, all seems normal. Shop said they've been getting a lot of cars apparently being affected by the cold weather.
To me, it seems her car went into a safe mode but without a code, can only guess at this point.

Any ideas? Anyone else experience something similar. I appreciate the help. Thanks. Bill

If there weren't any codes then the lit MIL was probably from an engine stall. If the shop wasn't Nissan and didn't have a good scanner, then it may have missed things in secondary systems. It's also possible the battery simply lost contact and the whole power system went down, that won't generally leave any codes at all. Particularly check the nuts that secure the battery lugs to the card on the hot side and current sensor on the ground side.

If your daughter is a left-footed braker, it's also possible she induced the problem by dragging the brake. Nissan CVT's will strictly prohibit acceleration when the brake lights are lit, and if you do it long enough the TCM will get goofy and may well cause a stall or other unexpected behavior.

Car did not stall, just wouldn't accelerate.
She is not a two footed driver.
Most things I found online had to do with transmission, but this wouldn't make sense that the car was alright after shutting it off and then restarting.

It could be, depending what the codes were. Many "first trip" codes will cause a "limp" but will clear after a restart if the DTC condition clears. That will also clear the MIL and end any limp. In those circumstances, only an analysis of "past" codes and Freeze Frame data will tell you what went wrong. Given that the car didn't stall, I suspect the code reader that was used simply didn't tell the whole story. Most ordinary OBD scanners won't talk directly to the CVT or ABS and will miss almost anything that doesn't directly affect the engine.

Thank you VStar.
You are correct they didn't bring it to a Nissan dealer. They used a local repair shop that did the scan. At this point she's just going to wait and see if it happens again, she's expecting it so won't be as surprised when it does.
Thanks again for the help.
Bill
