Just traded for a 2002 infiniti qx4. ..great condition. But has no acceleration when trying to pass. Anyone have any ideas. I have been reading about Mass air flow being bad ??

If the only symptom is that it struggles to get up to higher speeds, my guess is that the fuel filter is clogged. It's a relatively easy and inexpensive fix, instructions are here.

If there's a rough idle or stalling, then there's a much better chance it's the MAF. You can try to clean it with MAF sensor cleaner, as it's pretty easy to access.

He just cleaned it last night. Tried it just now briefly coming back from quick trip to walmart.. No stalling or rough idle at any speed.. when you are running 55 and you need to pass a car.. you push accelerator and you get very slow creeping up maybe 60 and finally the passing gear kicks in. ? There is no way a person could safely pass a car in this one!! It just won't go.

I'm guessing the check engine light is not on right?

Try shifting manually at highway speeds by turning overdrive off to pass. Let us know if that works as normal or not.

Cleaning the MAF doesn't necessarily rule out MAF problems.

Thanks for the input. Have a little better..acceleration. going to put new fuel filter on this weekend. Will also have him try manually shifting. Service engine light is on. When we bought it was 3 quarts low on oil? So far no visible leak! Last set unusual thing is 4wd indicator lights on then go off while driving? Orange 4WD will come on and stay on...

Pull the codes, that will give you a lot more information to work with.
