Hey guys, been a while since I have been on. Well, long story short, was working on cars so much got tired of it so I traded my 91 project(which was a major project), for a 2008 RX8. Before anyone says anything, yes I know quite a bit about rotaries, yes I know the issues with the issues, yes I know how to make them last.

Anyways, looking on craplist and found someone selling a 92 na, cherry red pearl. Basically got it for 1k. Interior is immaculate, has the blue felt? seats, body in decent shape. For the most part ok shape, just the normal issues, injectors, etc. It also sat for 3 yrs and they bought a new car, well somewhat new. 67 Camaro-mint. Gorgeous car.

My question is, didn't all 300zx's come with AC? I mean this car has nothing, no condensor, lines, evap, even the AC pod doesn't have an AC setting. Its also a digital one. The holes in the firewall are all sealed up. Who would have thought.

By the way, I really missed the Z. The design just cant be duplicated.

Dunno 'bout Nissan but all cars do not necessarily come with air, some sell in northern states without it for the absolute bottom dollar people. I used to search for and find them in American Motors cars for drag cars as they were immediately 125 pounds lighter and less clutter under the dash. In today's world of no global warming that is likely a mistake though. I had a brother-in-law who always tried to buy cars in Texas like that, but he had other things wrong with him as well...........

Looking at where the normal a/c controls go to find them missing tells the tale there.

I get that a lot of cars had options of no AC. I have seen many. Actually had a friend that bought a 99 corolla, and didn't realize it had no AC until he tried using it. Stuff you take for granted. I just have never heard or seen a Z without the option for AC due to the type of car it is.

The digital component is there for controls, turns on heat, fans, etc. But looking at pics of other climate controls, its the same thing. Maybe Im just forgot what it looked like. If someone took it completely out, thats a lot of work. Maybe ill look into installing a new one. Who knows.

I've never seen a Z without AC from the factory. That's certainly odd. I'd have loved to have seen some pictures of that.

Me, either...I've looked at a TON of Z32's and that's a new one by me. I always thought the climate control system was such that A/C was required in the car, maybe (apparently!) not?

I could see a Z not having it as it is a high performance car.

Factory non-A/C would have maybe the same controls if heat and cool are mixed but there will be no printing anywhere on the HVAC about max A/C or cooling as to a range, there would only be heat. Generally the printing on the controls has changed.

As a general statement I agree, however there has never been any publication of Nissan doing this, none of the FSMs make mention of A/C-less cars, and the Z32 was considered a "luxuried up" Z car so not really a die-hard performance car. If this is in fact a factory none A/C car it could be the rarest Z32 in existence.

Whoa, whoa , whoa. What is this crazy talk, rare. If you saw this car, that is the last thing that would happen in the conversation. lol.

I really am starting to wonder now, it has all the plugs. It has the harmonic balancer with the AC grooves. But, everything, and I mean everything is gone. Even the bolt holes for the accumulator/dryer doesn't look like it has bolts in it ever, still the has the paint in the threads. No electric fan, even the mount for the condenser never looked it was touched or ever had anything mounted. Baffles me. The firewall where the evap comes out looks like the reg grommets but has a plate covering which looks like from the inside, not the stock color. Actually looks like basic sheet metal. Just like it was put there a few months ago, was pretty clean.

I know the previous owner didn't do it. He owned it for 6yrs and it sat for almost 4. He said he never realized it didn't have AC. Hmm, maybe its another "unicorn" Z.

Does anyone have a pic of the actual Unicorn Z?

Cars can be repainted. Truly dedicated people can remove literally every piece of it, I've done my share of them for race cars and I mean EVERYTHING was gone.

Pic the HVAC controls, that will likely tell you.

More unusual to have a previous owner that never realized it was not there if you ask me.

I get the car could have been repainted, but I am very certain its the original paint judging on how it really wasn't taken care of. But hey, I have have been wrong before.

The previous owner I don't think he had a clue what he got himself into. I think he told me me maybe drove it 1000 miles. He lived just south of Wyoming and it gets warm in the summer, but most of the time you don't need AC up there.

I don't know. I guess I just like getting projects and saving Z cars from getting crushed. This one just confused me at first, since it is an NA 2+2. Not something I would make into an actual race car. TT i get, but hey, some people think civics are race cars. :gotme
