Won't work in high humidity areas (St.Louis). Plus, you'll have to keep a window open.

At best, it'll humidify the inside of your car and make it all funky if you close it up and leave it in the sun...

They had a similar product out here in the desert that was used in the 1940's - 1960's (before cars had A/C). It was a cylinder with water that hung on the passenger window and as the air rushed into it, it blew cooled air into the car...

I had one on my 1949 Oldsmobile (just for show). :D

They have one that circulates cold water from an ice chest for humid areas I almost left the site then I saw that. All you have to do is keep putting ice in so the water is cold and that cold water goes over the evaporator and vwalla cold air. The only prob is they are like 500 bucks but it will be worth it to me. you could also use it for camping. I sound like a freekin comercial :rolleyes :D

http://www.swampy.net/hprices.html Portable being the key word. It would not be for everyone. The idea of this an electric water pump and electric fans make me happy, only the alternator belt left. Or you could have a place for your blower:)

Funny thing is I know exactly what hitmans talking about and im 23, ah the god ole swamp blowers.... Thats what I thought of exactly prior to clicking on the link.... I saw an image only to be dissapointed that it was some new-fangled unit....

Kinda s***ty if you ask me, having a unit called swampy that does squat for those in the swamps. Definately not a florida unit...

LOL - Yeah, I think killa has the right idea.

Besides, if you're running "OneLap", you'll need all the room in your car you can get AND at those speeds, you probably shouldn't have a 100 pound chunk of metal in your car that's not bolted down... :D

PUT IN THE AC for the lap!

There is nothing worse than driving non-stop with a sweaty back. Cloth interior (I don't like leather, doesn't breath), with the A/C cranked... Lots of fluids for the road trip. You'll add a little weight, but falling asleep on a warm muggy night is much worse!

Oh... work out a system with your codriver BEFORE the event. I would not stop during rallies. Monte-Carlo type that you had to keep up an average speed on (reasonable speed, but stop for two minutes and hit a check point, you are way down). Thankfully had a plastic bag for my navigator.... ugh, turned out to have holes in it! :(

Look for PILOT SHOPS to find a decent item. "Little John". Yes, you know what it is for. :D

Try a search for "Vintage Air" also - They make self-contained bolt-in units for older cars.

p.s. Tom, leather DOES breathe, but it has to be good quality leather. If leather didn't breathe, cows would be SCREWED. :D

Ya, they have gotten better with lots of "micro holes" in the leather seating surface. A friend bought a brand new BMW, pulled the seats out, took them to a shop and had CLOTH inserts made for the middle portion. I fully understood.... other friends thought he was nuts!

Texas... when I moved here, my trust '72 Datsun 510 didn't have A/C. Drove it that way for three years.... finally sold it to a friend, still around Dallas some place.

I really like the system on the new Infiniti M45 - The seats are air conditioned, and UNLIKE Volvo's and Saab's "cooled seating", the M45 ones work damn good!

Incredible how fast they cool you off.

I'd give my right nut to trade the heated seats in my Q for the cooled seats in the new M. :D
