Hello All,

I thought all J30s came with ABS?

I ask this as I do not have any ABS lights on the dash and I can skid all over in the snow. I have driven many ABS cars in the past and know the feeling when it kicks in. Is there any chance the previous owner did something to disable it?

It's a 97 J30 non-t model

I'm not sure about US cars. I do know that all models sold in Canada came with ABS and '93 and '94 models with additional traction control.

The first place I would check is under the hood. On the passenger side along the fender almost by the firewall is a black box. The lid of the black box is held by tabs. Carefully pop off the tabs and open the box. The big module is the ABS module. Check to see if you have it.

93/94 Canadian J30 with Traction control? WOW! I happen to own a 93 and how do I check if my J has traction control? Do I just hit on the gas really hard and see if the rear wheel spins?

As far as I know the Js come with ABS. My 94 has it. If it was disabeled or messed up then a ABS light will come on, on your dash. My relay came loose and light came on. Like driverdrive said, check the box located on the passenger side near the firewall. There will be a relay in the small box.

Its was an option. If you have it, your instrument cluster will have a light ABS/T. You cannot turn it off. When the traction control engages, the ABS/T light will blink.

I have the original Canadian J30/J30t brochure from those years. I wish I had a scanner large enough to scan it. The brochure is bigger size wise than a copy of Rolling Stone magazine. It details how the ABS and traction control work.

The brake pedal should pulsate when ABS is activated.

Well, I checked it out and the only thing in the black box that could be anything close to ABS is a fuse labeled "anti skid."

I have no lights on the dash either when running or with the ignition in the on position. The wheels lock up so what could "anti skid" mean. One thing is certain, if I have ABS it is not working on any level.
