Hello,

Talked with a Salesman about financing a Versa through NMAC and he advised against it and said they could find a lender for me. I have Financed through NMAC before (17 years ago), and had no problems.

So my question is why would a Nissan dealership advise against Nissan financing?

Has anyone here used NMAC?

Thanks...

Money. Banks pay hefty fees to dealerships to become their preferred banks to lend from. Either it's on a per loan basis or a flat fee. Dealer's are allowed to have some flex with the interest rates that people get charged so that more loans get sold. They try their best not to adjust the rates very often since they don't want to disappoint the banks. I think the dealer's telling you, "Oh lets not use NMAC, they have crappy rates. My banks can get you a better rate." They will turn around and give you the same rate as NMAC, but with one of their preferred banks. More money for them. Ask for NMAC. Once you have the rate in hand, ask if they can beat it with one of their banks.

I run into the similar issues with trying top use my AAA discount. I'll book a hotel room and ask for the AAA rate. I'm always told, "I have a better rate than the AAA rate. It's $$$ a night." Then I tell them I'm only interested in the AAA rate. For some reason they always say, "Are you sure, once I look it up I'll have to give it to you." This is their last attempt to weasel you out of the discount you deserve. Then you hear, "Oh, they must have just lowered it because it's only $$ now"

I got mine through NMAC. My credit sucked and they had the best rate. And, the dealer do have some flexibility in the rate, because when I threatened to go to another dealer because they had the car I ordered 18 months prior on their lot, they lowered the rate an entire point.

I haven't made my first payment yet, but I haven't seen any reason not to like them.

Let me guess... you went to Performance Nissan in Everett, right?

AVOID THEM LIKE THE PLAGUE! They are 110% con artists. They will get you every way possible, and they won't make a deal without at least one of their "gimmicks" hidden away unless you pay completely with cash up front.

If you REALLY want to buy from them, secure a loan through BECU and have cash in hand, so you can tell them the price exactly you are going to pay and not a penny more.

I used NMAC through Nissan of the Eastside and was happy both with the dealership (at least the sales experience... Service was another matter) and NMAC themselves. Good rate, and easy to deal with when I paid off the loan.

But literally ANY Nissan dealer in the area will treat you better than Performance. If Performance is the only dealer with the Versa you'd want, try to go through Campbell-Nelson and have them dealer trade for the car. You'll end up getting shafted less.

If you have descent credit, find your own lender yourself. At the least, you can use that as a starting point. The dealer gets what amounts to a kickback for securing credit through their bank. Don't let the dealer work in terms of monthly payments... focus on the amount to be financed (your out the door price). It's really sad that dealers can sleep at night knowing they make most of their money by F****** people, rather than just selling a good product at a fair price.

I once read a story about a women that was willing to pay so much for a lease that the dealer HAD to throw in some "free" stuff because they had exceeded the maximum the GM wouyld allow them to sell that car for. She walked out thinking she got a good deal.
