ok so i just went to the inspection station on rt.46 and they failed me for wiper blades, ebrake cable not properly working on my automatic 1997 infiniti i30 and because 4 systems arent reading. catalytic converters, oxygen sensors, egr systems, evaporative system are reading not ready but oxygen sensors- heated, fuel system, engine misfire, comprehensive component are all reading.. when i hooked my scan tool onto the car it said i had a Po0325 code for knock sensors, i cant see this causing all those problems. has any one else had these problems and if so what is wrong and how can i fix it? any help is much appreciated..

I find no fault with the inspection station but you have multitude of problems with your car. Without the eBrake, you are loading the transmission park pin whenever you park on an incline. It might be difficult at times to shift out of Park. To avoid this, whenever parking on an incline, turn the wheels until the tires touch the gutter then set it in Park. Of course you have to fix that eBrake.

As for the knock sensor, unless it has been replaced before, then it's due time. The KS will not turn on the CEL but will store a code in the ECM. Typical resistance of a KS is 550K-ohm. It's also possible that your connections are dirty or the harness is bad. Make sure you clean the engine ground leads (2 each, near the fuel injectors on Bank 1). The KS may pass the resistance test but if it is an old one, the housing is probably cracked so it behaves erratically at high engine temp. It's possible that the KS problem has been triggered by something else. Have you done any Throttle Body and MAF sensor cleaning lately? The EGR tubing may also be dirty and a host of other things.

The OBD II continuously monitors for misfire, fuel system abnormalities and other components. However, there are non continuous monitors like EGR, heated O2 sensors, catalyst, Evap system, etc. Anytime you disconnect the battery for an extended period or reset the ECM, these non-continuous monitors are reset to NOT READY state. The OBD II has to check each one of these non-continuous monitors and pass the test before each one will be set to READY state. And that requires a mix of city and highway driving, stop and go and at least an overnight off period. The actual sequence may vary for different make of cars.

So replace the wiper blades, fix the eBrake and KS problems. Add a bottle of fuel system cleaner, BG44K or Red Line SI-1 to clean your injectors and combustion chamber components. Then drive the car for at least 2 days of mix city-highway and use your scanner to check for READY state of the sensors. And to improve you chances of passing the inspection, drive the car for at least 30 minutes, preferably on a highway, before taking it inspection.

as for the ebrake i knew that already just something stupid, wiper blades i know work fine they were just being d!ck about it that day.. they failed a 09 m3 for the same thing the quy right in front of me. but yea the thing about it is.. the car drives fine, starts right up.. theres no problems with the engine at all.. doesnt hesitate.. work irratically or anything, thers no lights on at all.. but when i hooked the scanner up the knock sensor came for circuit 1.. i dont know which side that is.. but yea.. i checked the grounds and wire brushed them and put them back on when i got the car 2.5 months ago and ive driven the car to and from work 40 min a day both a mixture of city and high way driving so it should have reset by now if it ever was.. i was thinkin that if the power gets lost every time that could be a problem but then it wouldnt start right up and itd be running rough for a while which it doesnt. i just put injector cleaner in the car and also i just did the oil change and coolant. wonder if any of this made a difference?

The System Readiness Test (SRT, switching from NOT READY to READY) for non-continuous monitors is not as simple as it may sound. You need the FSM to really understand the requirements. A minimum of 20 minutes of highway-city driving with several stop-and-go is required to set all sensors to READY state...assuming the required conditions are met. If everything is Ok, a 10 minute highway drive will set the EGR, heated O2 and catalyst sensors to READY. The Evap, Evap Purge and EGRC-BPT timer will only start once the car has switched from highway to city driving. If a malfunction is detected, the timer resets back to zero.

So it's possible that you have cleared the code some time ago but if a malfunction happened after that, then you're back to square one.
