Any issues with so called "street drags" and directional stability?

They are very soft and should grip well, but arent they designed primarily for straight line performance?

As some of you know I got myself an SR powered S13 as a fun weekend car to complement the big Infiniti, and it begs to be run hard.

So if I put those on the rear of the car for streetracing, would I have to fear directional issues in curves with the rear of the car?

Or are there no issues of this kind and they would be a great choice even on all 4 tires?

Fred..:)

hah. my friend drove around with NT555R's for MONTHS... All over Vegas. He only stopped because he bent a wheel. Kept driving on them way past the 'lincolns head test'

Worst case, they'd just push through hard turns if you only had them on the rear, I'd think. You seem like you can handle a car, so I assume you know how to get out of slightly sticky (no pun intended) situations.

the nitto's suck for drag, they're just partially shaved, slightly stickier at low-temp Z rated tires..nothing impressive there.

most good "Drag radials" are designed to grip in a stright line, far different from cornering, it wouldnt "push" the *** end would just roll over the edge of the tire.

drag radials, like the BFgoodrich ones, are great for weekend track meets..grab a set of spare wheels(2!) throw them on, drive gently up there, do a few runs, drive back(or put them on at the track)..

and uh, dont run a drag radial on the street if you like to corner hard fred, as a friend..I wont allow it. what kidn of tires do you have now? a good sticky Z rated tire does wonders for both linear and cornering grip..-chet

I am running kinda worn Nitto550R's on the rear in 225/50 R16.

Maybe put on a new pair after this weekend (dragging this weekend)

Are 550's much different from 555's?

I thought you said 555's so my comment might be totally off.

check out those yokohama r compound tires...they're good tires but very sticky and wear fast...so i figure they'd be ALMOST as good as drag tires but also would handle turns better then ever

I have 555Rs, they're really good for drag. They also corner better than my Kumo 712 for whever that's worth. I hope to get at least 10-15k out of them. I only got 8k out of my kumos because I couldnt get them to not spin. Even with a street start they'd spin when I spooled. I think the 555rs are good tires all around (except for water) if you're a drag racer that is. but on the front? Why? I have 712s up front, I make a hard corner and I can hear the fronts start to break and the rear is nice and solid. :)
