Searched around and couldn't find anything about a CVT with nitrous. Why is that?

From my understanding the VQ can handle 400-450 hp at the crank and the CVT can handle 350-400 at the wheels, should be safe with a 75-100 shot if those numbers are true, correct? If not, what would I have to upgrade in order to "safely" run a 75-100 shot?

Thanks :)

Only AC I've heard of on here with NOS was Jewels505 (I think that was his name) and he hasn't been around for a while. Also think he has MT.

Yeah, I read thru Jewels' thread already and I'd be interested in a similar setup to what he's got except for the fact that I've got a CVT. Really regret not waiting for a 6 speed lol.

nope. 350-400 at the wheels is like 450-500 hp at the crank (assuming about a 20% loss). I never heard of a CVT taking that much power without blowing.

As far as whats been posted in the forum, their are only 2 people to use Nitrouse if I'm correct. Jewels did it with a V6 stick shift and another guy did it with a 2.5 CVT. The 2.5 guy I think tried to do a turbo kit and nitrous or something crazy and blew his transmission.... 2.5 has a different transmission then the 3.5 though.

Although the CVT is the weakest link in this application, you guys have to remember that you won't reach that HP unless you're on the NOS for a ver long substantial time. OP is correct about using the 75-100 shot nozzle..so long he doesn't go "Fast and the Furious" with it.. :rotflmao

Think of it this way..it's like getting 200w (RMS) subwoofer and using a 400 RMS sub...You won't blow the speaker as long as you don't push the gain to the max.

OP..check out Dyno Tune's setup. it comes with an adapter that easily installs on the OEM fuel rail system. No cutting! :naughty:

oh how I would love to run nitrous on my CVT 3.5... although, I don't have enough playing money to make sure I'd be able to afford a new transmission if things went bad lol.

Even though the 3.5 CVT can handle higher temperatures and torque than the 2.5, it will not survive more than a few runs with a 75 shot of NOS. The belts are the weakest part of the CVT. A turbo over 5PSI will likely blow the CVT, even with an added intercooler. You're playing with fire, my friend.

It's certainly possible to try, especially if you start real low and install temperature gauges. But unfortunately, there's no telling at what amount of torque the belts would snap. A replacement CVT transmission - even used, is very expensive. And there's not a chance that Nissan would cover it under warranty. Doing a CVT to 6MT swap is also not worth it, due to very high cost and long turn-around time.

If you want to pursue these kinds of mods, you're better off selling/trading in the CVT for a 6 speed.

Nitrous is prob the best option as an adder as it's not constant, so it wont affect the transmission as much as turbo/etc. I would not go with anything over a 75 shot, Make sure you have a purge kit and safety switch as well.

You have to remember that the jeting may say 75-100,but in many cases they create more torqe than hp,so be carefull,I would use a window switch,to keep things on the safe side.
