I was wondering what mods would I need to handle a 150shot or bigger on a '91 240sx w/direct port kit? Im guessing changing to a bigger fuel pump, injectors, FPR, fuel rail, and ofcourse the common bolt-ons. Would I need a MSD unit to retard the timing? I've searched but I couldnt find an actual answer. Would the stock bottom-end hold? I read Aries did a 200shot (correct me if Im wrong) but couldnt find a list of mods he had. All suggestions are welcome. Thanks in advance.

The mods you need are going to be subject to opinion. And dont take areis' example as one to follow by. I see his 200 shot method moreso the "exception"...not the "rule"...know what I mean? Plus...150 shot of nitrous is pretty healthy, tuning wont be an easy task...and tuned right for nitrous means it will probably be a pig off the gas. Stick with 75 shot or so...it makes great power, is VERY streetable with no other mods. A shot 100 shot is totally attainable, but I would make sure that the mods you listed above (i.e.-fuel pump...injectors are a good idea too.and some kind of tuning device;;afc, msd timing retard, etc..) altough the fuel rail isnt necessary. The ka fuel rail has been proven to flow over 550cc and 720cc injectors with no known problems. The stock bottom end CAN hold. That doesnt mean it WILL...just that it CAN. Hell...it COULD crap on you with a 30 shot if its not up to par. Good news is...the 91 cams are good for the gas.

The engine was swapped out for a new one and it has almost 5k. So Im pretty sure its up to par. Im going to use the nitrous only at the track, but Im planning on doing everything possible to the engine except replacing the rods & pistons for daily driving.

you need to prep your engine the same way you would if you were turbocharging it.

for the 150+ shot that you are planning to run, i'd most definitely beef up the bottom end. the KA is a tough engine, but that much juice is too violent for just about any engine.

Thanks for the replies.Does anyone know what mods Aries ran with the 200shot?Just to get an idea of what I should consider.

he had alot of fuel to compensate for the n20. Fuel pump, injectors, probably some type of engine management along with some ignition mods. No so sure though. I'm sure he had fuel mods though.

This might get more response in the FI forum, just for some added input.

a rule of thumb is 25 shot per cylinder max without some modding. after that, our pistons(lightweight aluminum) wont like you for very long. you can safely run 100 shot im sure, with just careful tuning. im not gonna speak for and against all msd units cuz im not sure how all the rest of them are. i have the digital 6+ and it has timing retard provisions for when im under spray. running colder plugs for 100 shot is a must, im running 2 step colder for just the 75 shot. another rule of thumb is 1 degree of retard for every 25hp of n2o. obviously, you cant do that if youre gonna run n/a as well, so thats where the msd comes in. ive had just about 15 bottles go thru my engine without adverse effects. im at 24k miles on my 2000 engine now and its still running strong. the msd lets me run 22degrees advanced n/a and im retarding about 3.3 when im spraying. all this could work for you too. go here for more info. http://www.nissanperformancema...shtml
