I know JWT sells a spool up Nitrous kit for the 300zx twinturbo. It works at a mid or higher rpm to get the turbos to spool up faster . That would be interesting to see it on the ca18det, I wouldn't mind trying it, but if some one has nitrous on their ca18det, please give us some feedback on the pros and cons.

Thank you,

I'm wondering if a nitrous shot on the intercooler might be a good idea when I need a little extra HP. Anyone else done this b4? Also, is it legal to have nitrous running as long as it isn't being injected?

Straight from Aries himself and with my spin...

Nitrous for the turbo cars is used in the lower rpms. It is used to create more thermal energy in the exhaust. This in turn spools the exhaust vanes on the turbo earlier. Hence a "spool up" kit.

Spraying under boost brings all sorts of tuning problems and issues to hand. It is VERY easy to go wrong with nitrous mixed with turbos. Often when you spray you get large spikes causing a sudden lean condition, then detonation, then pre-ignition of th next mixture. Voila, nitrous backfire through the intake tract and you've blown the head and god know's what else. BTW, your motor is still spinnin up in the RPM when this happens.

Let the carnage begin.

On a good hot day this will work well. Especially for repeated runs back to back. Most SR20/CA18 intercoolers are large enough already to avoid alot of heat soak problems. Plus if you can find it, you can use C02 instead of nitrous to save a few bucks at the fill station.

Hmm, never thought of CO2, but that's a really good idea. Another thought just came to mind though, what about metal fatigue due to thermal expansion/retraction of the intercooler? Normally I wouldn't see it as a problem, but when something like N2O or CO2 is being sprayed on it does that raise the chances of problems occuring?

CO2 no. Also there was speculation that the Co2 would float up and into the intake and other parts and would break things on DSMTALK. This isnt the case however once sprayed the Co2 will fall to the ground semi-immediately.

so how about using a large constant air tank designed for Paintball markers? Could something like that be rigged to spray the CO2 on the intercooler?

Yeah you could do that as well... you dont have to buy a Intercooler kit but the kit's do work and they spray fairly evenly over the intercooler... you arent left with hot spots.

There's a guy on Skylinesdownunder.com that swears the two peltier coolers he put on his intercooler work great, its something I'm thinking of trying someday, at the very least its unique and not THAT expensive, peltiers are like 20-30 bucks a piece from what I found and they get REALLY cold.
