I'm thinking of getting my tires nitrogen filled. My only concern is if it will make my TPMS go crazy? Does anyone know the answer or have experience with doing this? Any help is thankful. Thanks in advanced. :bigthumb:

Mine came with nitrogen from the factory (which may be standard now?) and my TPMS hasn't ever been out of whack, even after refilling with normal air.

By theory TPMS is based on pressure, so since Nitrogen can produce the same amount of pressure, I wouldn't see why it would affect the TPMS at all.

not sure if you know this but the reason why performance cars use nitrogen in their tires is one thing, when air gets hot it expands, which changes the tire pressure. Nitrogen is used because it doesn't expand like air which helps make things more consistant. it wont affect the tpms, but if you put air into the tires with it it's purpose is negated. honestly, i think places use this as a way to upsale, unless you track the car you will be perfectly fine with good old air lol!

1) You live in SoCal. You have less to worry about temperature fluctuation than most.
2) Atmospheric air is mostly nitrogen. You will not notice the difference driving your car on road.

Reason why I was thinking of filling the tires with Nitrogen is because I've heard that it's more stable and will not seap through/evaporate which results in a person having to check tire pressure much less than regular air. I also heard that it will make you wheels lighter in weight. If those are real fact I don't know which is why I'm asking for peoples opinions and also if those statements can be verified as true or :bs: .

To be honest, you can easily find this out on google in 30s or less. what I said is baisically the only advantage, I dont think it's worth the 30-40$ to do it. save your self a good bit of cash and check your tires every month or so, theres no difference you will notice.

Wade you're right. I'm going to do some more research and get the fact straight and confirmed. Then I will make a decision.

Wade, do you think filling tires with Nitrogen in the winter would be a good idea since regular air drops pressure? This may make more of an impact for people with tire stretches since holding air can be critical, especially in colder temperatures. My stretch isn't drastic so I'm not too worried, but I'm curious

I think thats the right move :dblthumb: , personally, I'f I'm curious I research the best I can to educate myself cuz then I learn something new. I'f i cant find out, then I ask people. It's best that you personally decide whats best, because everyone has their own opinions.

for people that have big temp drops It makes a little more sense, but concidering that it only costs a buck to inflate your tires you will save yourself some decent money. nitrogen will still leak out, so regardless you will probably have to re-inflate your tires at one point or another, so unless you take it back to the dealer or something your going to use air, defeating it's entire purpose.

Alex, I dont know where you are but I hope you dont use those new rims in the winter. especially if it snows. if it does get reg wheels n tires that are all seasons. never use summer tires when it's cold.

as stated earlier, it won't affect tpms because it is based on pressure. if you have a full size spare, more than likely it will have a tpms sensor as well. so keep that topped off or that light will go off; all four on the floor look fine but ur spare is low lol.

my local stealership puts nitrogen in every new car they receive. Then they add $99 to the price of the car without giving people a choice....that's not right

If they did that when I bought my car I would laugh and say goodbye, I'm going somewhere else. And that's being nice
