I havent seen any real info about it on these forums. lets get started here.

piggyback isnt a option for me. its either nistune or megasquirt.

i believe price is about the same for both.

stock ecu pwnz.controls my car flawlessly even at 22psi...nistune is an easier way to tune it.

megasquirt are for people that know what they are doing and have ALOT of time to tinker around. you're on your own basically with that.

Hey Carl, do you feel that NIStune is worth the $400 for all of its features? Or would you recommend just using an emulator or EPROM chip to tune the RB ECU's?

I havent used it but it sounds pretty good. But if your in NC you should see if Carl has time to chip your computer for you.

for the package deal the nistune software is a great setup...but for most ppl who arnt familar with tuning it might not be ideal...because when you chip an ecu and use something like nistune the ecu becomes a standalone and you CAN destroy the motor very quickly.nistune is nice because everything is done thru consult, this includes map tracing and live uploading; this eliminates the need for an external emulator and consult cable.I've done quite well using an emulator, a consult cable and any one of the rom tuning programs to live tune my car but nissandatascan is HELLISHLY unstable on vista and it tends to crash alot...I might just get the nistune software for stability reasons.

The software only for around $200 is also good. You will have to burn chips or use an emulator to change maps but if you aren't going to change your setup all the time it is a reall good deal. You can change many more of the engine parameters than you can with live edit or romeditor. It also supports more widebands than nissan datascan. I love nissan datascan but when i upgrade my turbo injectors and maf and get ready to tune it i will go with nistune. I already have an ostrich emulator and chip burner from my honda days so i'll be set for that part.

After reading everything on the website about the NIStune software and hardware, I have one final question - not sure if anyone knows the answer though, but I figured that I'd give it a try...

They talk about hooking up a wideband O2 sensor and monitoring AFR through the software. However, I was under the impression that most (if not all) nissan ecu's used narrow band O2 sensors... Does the RB use a wideband (I don't think it does, but could be wrong)? And if it does not (which is what I think) then how are they planning on connecting a wideband to the software? I know that it is easy to install the wideband, but I did not think that you could just connect it to the factory harness for the signal... I was under the impression that all widebands had to have a separate harness going to a gauge in order to get the readings... SO, how are they saying that you can connect it to the computer and when the software only uses the Consult connection?

Maybe I misunderstood the site, but I'm just curious...

Thanks for your time guys!

Good Question.I just found the answer:

"6. What Wideband support is there?

Currently NIStune supports the following Wide Band units:

TechEdge 1.5 and 2.0http://www.techedge.com.au

Innovate LM1 and LC1http://www.innovatemotorsports.com

AEM UEGOhttp://www.aempower.com

Zeitronixhttp://www.zeitronix.com

PLX Devices (R Series)http://www.plxdevices.com

MOTEC PLM(Currently in testing)

DLP Design A/D Converterhttp://www.dlpdesign.com/usb/io8.shtml

These units connect to your laptop via the serial port (or USB port when using serial-USB adaptor). These units output data to allow NIStune to monitor your Air Fuel Ratios from their sensor, and some produce auxillary inputs for connecting other sensors which can display and log inside NIStune.

NIStune provides several internal utilities to make the most of your Wide Band- Dyno Mode AFR graphing against RPM- Real time AFR and auxillary map display (minimum AFR, maximum AFR and current AFR against the fuel map)- Logging and playback of AFR

We can add other units in the future, if they have a protocol specification available for us to code and emulate to"

Ok, so basically in order to connect a wideband to NIStune, you have to connect the wideband to another USB (or old school serial) port - so you would effectively have your computer connected to the wideband and also to the consult system and NIStune monitors both functions once connected.

Not too shabby...

This software definitely sounds like something that I will keep in mind when I get further (much further) along in my project - though things are getting closer and closer every month (new job, then funds raising)

I have used that function before and it's awsome. The A/F shows up on the Nistune program screen and you can over lay it on the fuel map and see what each cells A/F is

Do you guys think that it would be good to use NIStune upon first getting an RB installed and running in a stock trim (after a complete rebuild). My reasoning would be to monitor engine function and allow for the ability to attempt to squeeze more power out of the engine w/o sacrificing reliability or longevity. I'm planning on having a RB26 and since I've heard that Nissan basically 'de-tuned' them I figured that using NIStune (or something similar) would allow me to regain that power...

the 26 base tune isnt as whimpy as you think, its actually pretty agressive for a nissan stock map.on a side note its set up more like a map based ecu...interesting.

you can run regedit and delete trial from the NAME and run nistune with trial again to play around more. just wish i had the adr file for rb20. guess i'll have to pay for it.

So what would be the ideal for people who arent familiar with tuning (RB25)?

back on with the wideband and nistune working together:

Will the lc1 log afr along with the rpm's with the nistune without buying the innovate rpm converter and the accesories?

Thats because I've added them so people can have a better play around with it

I'm going to increase the trial times so people get a bit more usage out of it. Was just a quick hack at the time for some people requesting trial version, so no need to get into regedit (as often?!)

If you find any bugs (such as the forementioned lockup with the AFM swap) let me know and I can chuck it on my to-fix list. Problems not reported end up not being fixed!

Yes you can use the LC-1 some people are already. I've just ordered one for myself since I've been using a WB simulator upto now for bench testing but want to play around with the auto tuning stuff on the road

Does nistune support the rb25? They really dont mention it on their website on their support list.

No.

Use the VG30DETT ecu and redo some of the pins. You can only use one knock sensor, but it is a much more viable option than the RB20DET ecu which does not support VTC.

Im not going to post the pins that need to be swapped and modifications because its on the Nistune forums so you need to go find it.

Hello Darkhalf, I'm looking into ordering Nistune, but I have a couple questions for you first..
darkhalf wrote:The A31 shares the same Hitachi part number circuit board as the HCR32. Hence why the pinouts are the same. A31 which are 27C128 (earlier) have no consult. If you have a later on with 27C256 (late) then this will potentially have consult code in it (since rest of circuit board supports consult lines)

I've only done Type 1 boards so far for earlier A31 model ECUs (no consult)
I have an A31 RB20DET, I read on the Nissan ECU tuning forums that it may not have Consult built in? It has the pins/wiring for it but how can I check to see if the ECU supports it internally? Also if my ECU does have CONSULT built in, will I need the Type 1 board?

Sorry to side-step / threadjack, but I think it is worthy / in the same vein:

I'm really debating between the following:

Nistune board

OR

PFC + Hand Commander.

I'm looking at an Innovate LC-1 for wideband. I'm interested in peoples _experiences_. I'm rather n00b to tuning, and I (obviously) don't want to blow my motor. From some searching I can get an LC-1 + Nistune board + software + Consult cable + ECU for about the same price as a PFC combo.

With the PFC, I assume there is a proprietary Apex wideband needed, or can I use an LC-1 and serial in with it?

I also understand the basic differences between the PFC and a modified ECU / PCM with a board in it like this.

I'm on quite a few forums... but regarding questions it is best to email me directly for immediate response

A31 - what I have seen so far all have been 16K ROM non-consult (ie Type 1 board). However my list of A31s has some 32K ROM (27C256 part) listed also and using similar ECU hardware to the HCR32. It is possible the later models may have consult but I cannot confirm that unless I obtain a rom image from one. Those could use the Type 2 boards with Nissan CONSULT if that was the case (or an emulator with consult tracing)

Regarding PFC ... a lot of tuners use FC Datalogic. Nistune is easier to tune when using the GUI on the laptop than the PFC when just using hand controller

i thought you could plug the PFC into laptop and set the stupid hand controller to the side

Some guy asked earlier what is easier for someone that doesnt know how to tune... read the thread

Buy the PFC and have it tuned by a shop for a couple hundred

If you go the other way your buying new ecu, chipping, then you need to learn the software, costs like it costs alot more and with more risk of blowing your **** up, at least that is what i got from it
