nistune cable options

I know PLMS Developments sells the cable to adapt consult to rs232 9 pin for use of Nistune on my S13, but dang, as simple as it is, there's got to be a less expensive alternative. I was considering getting a standard consult to bluetooth adapter and a reciever/xmitter for my laptop, but since I'm running nistune, will it work properly or do I HAVE to use the PLMS cable?

I know I'm not a frequent user of this forum and I probably should post in tuning or some other place, but quite honestly, there isn't enough traffic on those forums to generate any speedy replies.

Any consult cable should work. I have an old school e-mance cable that works but is very bulky. I really like ecutalks'cable... Straight usb to consilt.

and you use nistune with these cables? if so, do you have any problems with drop outs or delay or any options that don't work due to incompatability of the cable? I've used the PLMS cable, it works perfectly but I don't have handy access to it and I want to work on my car!!!! lol

I don't but basically its the consult protocol and shouldnt matter who makes the cable. Look at it like the difference between old school serial ports (db9) and usb. if your computer doesn't have the protocol fore bd9 the cable won't work because most laptops are only setup for usb. Its a computer thing ya know?
