Hey, Nistech, I think you're one of the greats and I greatly appreciate your generosity toward myself and fellow forumites.

The problem that I'm having is that I dropped my transmission to put in a pilot bushing (didn't do it during the 5spd swap 6months ago D'oh!).

Well, I installed a pilot bushing (couldn't get that auto adapter bearing off, but I did grind it so it's out of the way), I installed the clutch, pressure plate, but can't get the transmission to go all the way in.

One thing I noticed is that the end of the clutch alignment tool did not go into the pilot bushing smoothly, in fact, it took quite a bit of force to get it in and out.

The transmission only has about an inch or so to go before it's in, but I can't seem to get it to go.

Any suggestions? Also, how far back should the pilot bushing be inside of the crank? Should it be a pressed fit all the way to the back? How much of the transmission input shaft actually goes into the pilot bushing?

PS, I did search and came up with a thread where you said the bushing can mushroom and cause fitment problems, but I'm wondering if this would be the same issue in my case. Thanks a bunch in advance,Matt

There is a tapper at the edge of the hole the pilot buching goes into. The edge of the bushing should be flush with the end of that tapper. My question though is about the torque conveter insert that is still in there. I am curious as to how you got the pilot bshing through it. Further more I fear the trans input shaft is jamming against it. BUT it sounds as if you had the trans in once already with it there and it mated flush??

The input shaft goes all the way into th bushing so that the bushing is centered on the input shaft pilot.

Thanks for the reply. Yeah, some how the transmission mated up even with the torque conv. bearing in there. I was able to grind the inside of the bearing until the pilot bushing fit inside. It was a bit snug though so I used a spark plug socket and tapped it in with a hammer. I'm guessing that this may have deformed the bushing. I also believe that the shaft may have been interfering with the insert because I would hear a loud whirring noise sometimes when I had the clutch pedal pressed (this is the reason I dropped the transmission).

if at all possible get that bearing out of there. Use a small torch or something to heat up that torque convertor insert and it should just pop out. The pilot bushing is tight going in , it is suppose to be.

Alright, I'll give that a shot. I did use an angle grinder to grind the bearing almost flush with the end of the crank so I don't think it should hinder anything, but I'll try some heat.

Thanks again,Matt
